New Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder E - Base Model Features

The base E variant of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV only comes with the 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol engine and a manual transmission. The most notable features of the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder’s E base model are:

The base variant seems to have most of the must-have features we expect from a base variant of a modern C-segment SUV. You might only miss a few features such as:

The base E variant of the Toyota Hyryder seems like it has almost all must-have features and is a suitable choice for a budget-conscious buyer. It's just missing a rear camera and a music system; both of which are very easy to install from the aftermarket. Even for the music system, it has the provision for a shark-fin antenna, 2 speakers and steering-mounted controls. So, you will only need a head unit and you're good to go.

On the positive side, Toyota are offering some of the important features, which are not as easy to install from the aftermarket like steering-mounted controls, shark-fin antenna, split rear seats, front and rear armrests and auto AC with rear AC vents.

2022 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder E vs S Variant - Feature Comparison

The next S variant of the 2022 Hyryder has the 1.5L mild hybrid petrol engine with manual as well as automatic transmission. This variant also adds the option of a full-hybrid powertrain with automatic transmission. With this engine, you can also drive the Hyryder without using the engine fuel for short distances.

Over the base E variant, the S variant adds the following notable features:

  • Cruise control
  • 7-inch touchscreen
  • 2x speakers
  • Wired Android Auto and Apple Carplay
  • Strings for rear parcel tray (mild hybrid only)
  • Boot, glovebox and front footwell light (mild hybrid only)
  • Paddle shifters (mild hybrid automatic only)
  • Rear camera
  • Telematics
  • Brown upholstery (hybrid only)
  • Black brown interiors (hybrid only)
  • 7-inch full-colour LCD instrument cluster (hybrid only)

Mild hybrid petrol-manual buyers can upgrade their booking from E to S variant only if Toyota price this variant aggressively and it carries a small price gap over the lower E variant. For automatic buyers, you should consider booking the higher variant as the S variant could end up with a high price for the features it's offering. So, mild-hybrid petrol-automatic should at least book the higher G variant, which has many more must-have features. After launch, you can downgrade to S if it carries a very aggressive price tag.

Hybrid petrol-automatic buyers should skip this variant as the next G variant has many more must-have and good-to-have features and will offer a far better ownership experience.

Even the S variant doesn’t have some must-have features like a rear washer wiper and rear defogger. You may also miss features like a soft-touch dashboard and LED projector headlamps.

New Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Petrol S vs G Variant - Feature Comparison

The 2022 Urban Cruiser Hyryder G variant also has the following 3 powertrain options:

  • 1.5L mild hybrid petrol with 5-speed manual
  • 1.5L mild hybrid petrol with 6-speed torque converter automatic
  • 1.5L hybrid petrol with CVT automatic

The G variant adds the following features over the S variant:

  • Larger 9-inch touchscreen
  • 2x tweeters
  • LED projector headlamps
  • Rear defogger
  • Rear washer wiper
  • 2x front side thorax airbags
  • 2x curtain airbags
  • Auto-dimming inside mirror
  • Auto headlamps
  • Auto-folding outside mirrors
  • Soft touch dashboard
  • Door ambient lighting
  • Dashboard ambient lighting (hybrid only)
  • Strings for rear parcel tray (hybrid also)
  • Boot, glovebox and front footwell lights (hybrid also)
  • Silver roof rails (hybrid only)
  • Panoramic sunroof (hybrid only)
  • Head-up display (hybrid only)
  • Wireless phone charger (hybrid only)

For hybrid automatic buyers, the G is an easy-to-recommend variant. It has some exclusive high-value features like a head-up display, colour LCD instrument cluster and a panoramic sunroof. Because of these, the Hyryder hybrid automatic seems like a complete car and the variant worth booking for a well-rounded ownership experience. Then, after launch, you can even consider upgrading to the top model if it carries a small price jump over the G variant.

With the mild hybrid engine, the G variant adds some more good-to-have as well as must-have features. Still, it misses out on some features like a sunroof, leather upholstery and 360-degree camera, which are available in the higher variant and will drastically improve the ownership experience. we'll still suggest booking the G variant to mild hybrid buyers and then upgrade to V after price reveal, if the V variant is lucratively priced or stick with G for better value for money.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Petrol G vs V Variant - Feature Comparison

In addition to the 3 powertrain options, the top-spec V variant of the 2022 Toyota Hyryder V variant also adds the option of 4-wheel drive with the mild-hybrid petrol engine and manual transmission. The notable additional features of the Hyryder V variant are:

  • Perforated leather upholstery
  • Ventilated front seats (hybrid only)
  • Tyre pressure sensors (hybrid only)
  • Puddle lamps (hybrid only)
  • 360-degree camera
  • Panoramic sunroof (mild hybrid also)
  • Leather steering wheel
  • Hill descent control (4WD only)
  • Drive modes (4WD only)
  • Black roof rails (mild hybrid only)

The V mild hybrid adds some high-value features but misses out on some features, which are exclusive to the hybrid powertrain. The list of hybrid’s exclusive features includes:

  • Ventilated seats
  • Tyre pressure sensors
  • Puddle lamps
  • Wireless phone charger
  • Colour LCD instrument cluster

Buyers who want their SUV to have most of the modern-day features will find the top V variant satisfactory. We’ll suggest mild hybrid manual and automatic buyers to book the V variant only if you're interested in most of the V variant's features. If you've booked the G variant, then you should upgrade to V only if it's lucratively priced. This recommendation is valid for mild hybrid manual as well as automatic buyers.

The hybrid Hyryder buyers can give the top variant a look for some of its good-to-have features. Otherwise, the G variant seems fairly well loaded with a very nice balance of feel-good and must-have features.

For buyers interested in the 4WD, the V variant is the only option. So, there’s not much choice for 4WD Hyryder buyers.

Which Variant Of The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Petrol Should You Book?

Let’s start with the base mild hybrid petrol engine and manual transmission combination. The base E variant seems like a reasonably-loaded option and has most of the must-have features. So, you should book the base variant and add aftermarket music system and a rear camera after purchase. You should upgrade to the S variant only if it carries an aggressive price tag.

If you want a better ownership experience with most of the modern-day features, then the G variant seems like it has a decent pick for most buyers because of its balance of good-to-have and must-have features. However, if the V variant carries an aggressive price tag, then you can consider upgrading to the top model. We didn't like that the V variant of the mild-hybrid powertrain, which are exclusive to the hybrid automatic only.

For Urban Cruiser Hyryder 4WD buyers, there’s only one choice – the V variant with mild hybrid petrol engine and manual transmission. This isn’t just the only choice for Hyryder 4WD buyers, it’s the only choice for C-segment SUV buyers who want 4WD.

After the price reveal, you can downgrade to S variant if you're on a budget and the G variant doesn't offer good value for money. If you have a higher budget, then you can consider upgrading to V if it carries a value-for-money price tag.

If you’re interested in the hybrid petrol automatic powertrain, then the base S variant is not a suitable variant to book as it doesn't get a good number of must-have features we expect from a car of this class. The G variant seems like a good option and is our top recommendation for booking as it has most of the must-have and good-to-have features. The top-spec V variant only adds a few good-to-have features. So, you can upgrade your booking to V variant if it carries an aggressive value-for-money price tag. Otherwise, we are expecting to see a decent, value price tag for the G variant.

What Are The Expected Prices Of 2022 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Petrol?

Our price estimates for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are based on our feature-specific perceived value, historical pricing strategy of Toyota and the current market conditions.

We are expecting the mild hybrid petrol-manual powertrain to start at Rs. 10.99 lakh for the base E variant and go up to Rs. 15.99 lakh for the top-spec V variant.

The 3 mild hybrid petrol-automatic variants will carry a Rs. 1.50 lakh premium over petrol-manual and cost between Rs. 13.99 lakh and Rs. 17.49 lakh.

For the hybrid petrol-automatic, Toyota may charge Rs. 15.99 lakh for the base S variant, Rs. 18.49 lakh for the G variant and Rs. 18.99 lakh for the V variant. In this case, the price gap over the mild hybrid petrol automatic variants is not consistent because the strong hybrid has feature differences.

The only 4WD option with mild hybrid petrol-manual could carry a premium of Rs. 2.0 lakh over the 2WD manual as it also offers exclusivity for being the only 4WD option in the entire C-SUV segment.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Petrol?

If we compare the base petrol engine of the Toyota Hyryder with similar engines of other C-segment petrol SUVs, then we can notice that it’s one of the few cars with a 5-speed manual transmission. Creta, Seltos, Kushaq and Taigun offer a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Creta and Seltos also have the option of auto-clutch manual transmission in specific variants. These transmissions manage the clutch and make driving in stop-and-go traffic almost as convenient as an automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the Kushaq and Taigun’s 1.0L turbo petrol engines offer better bottom and mid-range torque to improve the city driving experience.

The other disadvantage of this Hyryder’s petrol engine is its lowest power and torque output figures. Although, its mild hybrid tech will add some bottom-end torque, which the peak torque figures don't convey.

The mileage details of the Urban Cruise Hyryder aren’t available right now but we expect it to offer slightly better mileage figures than the S-Cross, which also has the same petrol engine.

If you compare the high-end petrol engine specs of other C-segment SUVs with those of the Hyryder hybrid petrol-automatic, then the Hyryder comes across as significantly underpowered. But, what it lacks in performance, it will deliver in mileage. The official mileage figures for the Hyryder hybrid are not out yet but we expect some phenomenal numbers in this area. Toyota’s 25 years of experience making hybrids will also add some trust in terms of long-term reliability of the Hyryder hybrid.

Good information. Just a nit-pick, don't see comparision for Nexon or Safari in any table. Is that because this is a largely petrol comparison and Nexon/Safari don't fit in?
