Mahindra and Mahindra has finally launched the much awaited 2018 XUV500 facelift in the country. The newly launched SUV is priced in the range of Rs 12.32 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) to Rs 18.98 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Though, the 2018 XUV500 is also available in a choice of five trims, but the nomenclature has been changed to W5, W7, W9, W11 and W11 Optional (top-spec). First launched in 2011, this is the biggest update received by the SUV in terms of design, styling, features and powertrain.
Under the hood, the all-new Mahindra XUV500 gets the updated 2.2L mHawk diesel engine that is now capable of producing maximum power of 155 hp and 360 Nm of peak torque that is 15 hp and 30 Nm more than the outgoing model. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and Aisin sourced automatic options. Apart from this, there’s also a 2.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 140 bhp of power but that is available with an automatic gearbox only. Though, Mahindra will be offering both engines with a six-speed automatic, with the diesel also getting an all-wheel-drive system. However, the rest of the range will be available with front-wheel drive as standard.
Talking about the design and styling, the front end of the facelifted XUV500 features a new chrome grille with a mesh design and a large chrome strip around the grille, the top part of the strip is flanked by new twin-pod headlamps with projectors and LED DRLs, bottom of the strip splits the air dam in two, fog lamps are retained from the current-gen model and are placed below the headlamps, with a vertical chrome strip and L-Shaped design. Moving towards the rear, the newly launched XUV500 facelift features a new tailgate design and tail lamp clusters, triangular tail lights instead of the regular vertically stacked taillights, redesigned rear bumper, tail-gate with a new chrome number plate garnish, a roof spoiler with an integrated high-mount stop light and the reflectors placed down the taillights.
At the inside, the all-new Mahindra XUV500 offers tan colored leather seats with diamond stitching, all-black dashboard is covered with leather, with silver trim on the centre console, a piano black fascia in place of a matte black finish on the centre console, additional silver trim added to the gear knob, center armrest, handbrake lever and steering wheel. The most noticeable change inside the cabin is the touchscreen updated with more options and features Android Auto, Connected Apps and EcoSense. Other features include an electric sunroof, power-assisted driver seat, reverse parking camera, push-button start function and keyless entry as the outgoing model.
The 2018 XUV500 will be offered in a total of seven colours - Crimson Red, Mystic Copper, Opulent Purple, Volcano Black, Lake Side Brown, Pearl White and Moondust Silver. The XUV500 is the flagship product from the house of Mahindra in the Indian passenger vehicle market. It is also Mahindra’s first global-standard SUV. The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 challenges the likes of Jeep Compass and Tata Hexa in the Indian passenger car market.
