by Swati Sanchayi on Monday, Aug 27 2018

German luxury automaker BMW has officially revealed the 2019 Z4 roadster at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, Califronia. The Z4 that had been discontinued after 2016 because of its increasing weight is all set to change that with its sharper than ever looks and better driving dynamics. Codenamed G29, the BMW Z4 has been co-developed with Toyota’s upcoming Supra, which is also based on the same new platform. This is the same platform which is also used in other models from BMW such as 5-Series, 7-Series, X3, X4 and X5. However, other mechanicals such as the chassis, suspension and electrical components have been taken from BMW’s cluster architecture (CLAR) platform.

At the exterior, the upcoming BMW Z4 gets the BMW signature kidney grille at the front with the badging with the front bumper with a lot of black insets around the air-vents and creases on the bonnet to add to its masculine appearance. There is a large vertical vent on the front fender behind the wheels, while the soft-top replaces the hard folding-top of the previous generation. Though the front looks aggressive, on the other hand, the rear looks sleek too with a molded boot lid and sharp taillights that flow outwards. However, the rear bumper is shaped for better air flow and there are dual chrome tipped exhausts sitting below the rear bumper.

The features include a brand new three-spoke steering wheel, large iDrive infotainment system with in-car connectivity options, glossy metallic accents, large digital instrument cluster and many more. Also, celebrating the debut of the earlier discontinued Z4, BMW will offer the First Edition with a number of new features including special BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line trim, Adaptive LED headlamps, dual-tone 19-inch lightweight wheels, Frozen Orange metallic color scheme taken from the concept, black Vernasca leather seats, Harman Kardon audio, HUD, ambient lighting, black finished mirror caps, soft top and other items among others.

Though, the complete engine specifications of the BMW Z4 have not been revealed yet, but the vehicle will come powered by the 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that develops 335 bhp. However, when along with M Sport brakes and rear diff, sport suspension with electronically controlled dampers, 50:50 weight distribution. This also enables the new Z4 to go from zero to 96 kmph in just 4.4 seconds. According to the company, a more affordable variant with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine in the 20i guise will be added to the line-up later as well as a more potent Z4 M is also expected to join the line-up.
