Drive Review: 2019 Maserati Levante V6 S petrol
Maserati might seem to have a low profile as compared against its other luxurious competitors, but this is set to change, as Maserati is looking to expand its portfolio. Due to the new emission norm restrictions, Maserati has been working on a new petrol avatar of the Levante and Ghibli, both of which are diesel-only models at present.
Here is a look at what the new 2019 Maserati Levante is like along with is its petrol engine in the V6 S variant.
The 2019 Maserati Levante gets a lot of cosmetic changes, but more interestingly the V8 mill has been introduced in it, which offers 590 hp of power in the Trofeo model and 550 hp power in the GTS version. These two hotties are not allowed in Europe, and thus the V6 mill replaces the V8 mill offering 430 hp for the V6 S, the model we are looking into.
The new 2019 Maserati Levante is offered in two trims – the GranSport and the GranLusso. The GranSport comes with more mean looks that it shares with the new V8 mill models, while the GranLusso flaunts classy styling with more chrome elements at both the ends, new alloys and some additional cosmetic changes including a body coloured rear spoiler. Two new exterior colours have been added as well - Blu Nobile and Rosso Potente, both of which look quite unique. The sports SUV retains the rest of basic curvaceous, cool design.
The new 2019 Levante’c cabin has been endowed with new graphics for its 8.4 inch touchscreen infotainment system and a restyled gear lever, which is an important as the previous gearstick was not intuitive. There is also a redesigned driving mode button cluster with two buttons now for Sport mode and Sport suspension setting. There is also a suit of drive assist techs under the ADAS or Advanced Driver Assist System.
The Levante always boasted of superb interior materials with designer Ermenegildo Zegna natural-fibre mulberry silk upholstery, which has been carried forward to the new 2019 model as well. The Italian auto major has also introduced the new Pieno Fiore natural leather upholstery option for the new model year. Comfort and luxury are not-notch, while cabin space is not abundant as can be expected on a crossover, but at the same time definitely not cramped up.
The Maserati Levante V6 S’ 3.0 litre, twin-turbocharged Ferrari developed petrol mill is capable of offering a max power of 430 hp at 5,750 rpm and a peak torque of 580 Nm at 2,000 to 4,750 rpm. The powerful Ferrari engine is coupled with Maserati’s active sports exhaust system. The petrol avatar of the Levante feels more refined and quicker that its diesel counterpart. It is claimed to do the 0-100kmph sprint in just 5.2 seconds, while the diesel version does it in 6.9 seconds.
The Levante is not full-fledged sports cars, but more of a luxury tourer, like all Maserati cars. It offers great ride and handling, and is extremely pleasing to cruise on highways. While the normal mode offers effortless driving in city roads. The Sport mode offers abundant power for an engaged drive. On the whole, the 2019 Maserati Levante V6 S petrol is a worthy luxury sporty crossover that represents the unique Maserato brand name nicely.
