Hyundai India has officially released the first official sketch of the 2018 Santro, codenamed AH2. The South Korean automaker is likely to revive the iconic nameplate on its all-new model as the Santro moniker has not been made official for the car that is expected to be launched in India sometime in October 2018. According to Hyundai, the car is a 'contemporary family car' and it will be replacing the Hyundai Eon in India, and is set to compete with the likes of Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.
According to the revealed design sketch, the 2018 Hyundai Santro will get a sharp-looking compact car with a tallboy stance with a slightly sloping roofline and a muscular shoulder line. The hathcback also appears to be offered with a roof-mounted rear spoiler flared wheel arches, stylish headlamps and fog-lamps and possibly a set of smart-looking wheels. However, most of these features can be referenced to the several test mules we have seen testing in the last few months.
The spyshots have revealed the small car by Hyundai sporting the company's signature cascading grille as well as steel wheels and silver hubcaps indicating that Hyundai might not offer alloy wheels with the upcoming AH2 hatchback. Also, the spied interior images reveal dual-tone beige and black interior with matching fabric upholstery for the seats along with a twin-pod instrument console with possibly a MID unit in the centre as well as a three-spoke steering wheel with audio controls, similar to the Hyundai Grand i10.
Though, the powertrain details are still under the wraps, but the 2018 Hyundai Santro is likely to sport a 1.0-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The biggest thing about the upcoming hatchback is that Hyundai has confirmed that the AH2 hatchback will come with an automated manual transmission (AMT) system, making it the first Hyundai car to get one. The hatchback is likely to have a certified fuel efficiency figure of 20kmpl or more and is expected to be priced from somewhere around Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
