It has been already reported several times that Ford has started working on the mid-cycle facelift models of the Figo hatchback and Figo Aspire compact sedan. However, recently, an Indian auto portal has published the spy pictures of a new variant of the Figo. By the look of it, it seems like the American auto major is also working on a crossover model of the Figo to be launched in the lucrative compact SUV and crossover market of India.
The reported upcoming Figo facelift based crossover model that was recently spotted testing in the Indian roads flaunted the required hatchback turned crossover features. The test mule featured black cladding across its body, which is a usual primary crossover feature for a beefed up look. The upcoming new Figo Cross test prototype also had alloy wheels finished in black, which looked somewhat out of place as they are smaller as compared to the size of the car. Other crossover feature that the spied test mule flaunted is roof rails. While these crossover features could be detected in the testing vehicle, other design elements could not be ascertained, as the model was fully wrapped in heavy camouflage to keep its design language a secret.
In the international markets, a Ford Figo based crossover model is already available for sale. Ford sells its Ka Trail hatchback turned crossover in the global markets like South America, and it is based on the Ford Ka (that is known as the Figo in India). Ford has apparently decided to bring in this South American crossover’s Indian version, which is based on the new updated Figo hatchback model.
Thus, now it seems that Ford India will be putting up a great show when new launches are concerned in the near future, as we now expect three model launches only from the Ford Figo family of cars. Apart from the Figo and the Figo based sedan and crossover models, the American car giant is also busy working on entirely new premium hatchback and mid-sized sedan models for these two popular Indian auto segments. Moreover, the Ford EcoSport facelift is set to launch around the festive season this year. All these upcoming models from the house of Ford will definitely draw more volumes for Ford and enhance the company’s positioning in the Indian auto industry.
When the under the hood specs are concerned, the Figo and the Figo Aspire models are expected to pack in a new Dragon petrol engine option. The upcoming Figo Cross is also likely to feature the same new Dragon mill.
Ford India is thought to be unveiling the Figo and Aspire facelift models at the 2018 Auto Expo. The crossover version of the Figo is expected to follow the launch of the updated Figo next year. Post its Indian launch, the new upcoming Figo Cross will be pitched against a range of crossovers that exist in India including the Toyota Etios Cross, Hyundai i20 Active and Honda WR-V.
