With the booking numbers, Hyundai has revealed the customer behaviour seen in the bookings. The carmaker says 85 per cent of the total bookings received is for the Sportz or a higher variant. The i20 is offered in four variants: Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta(O).

Almost 45 per cent of the buyers are said to have opted for the variants equipped with the BlueLink connected technology. Hyundai offers the BlueLink connected tech only on the Asta and Asta(O) variants. Sunroof still continues to be deciding factor in the car buying decision as close to 30 per cent of the bookings are said to be for the variants with a sunroof. The i20 is equipped with an electric sunroof only on the top-spec Asta (O) variant. Similarly, 35 per cent of the buyers have opted for variants with an air purifier. It is offered only on the Asta and Asta (O) variants.

With the increasing traffic in the city, more buyers are moving towards automatic transmission as 25 per cent buyers have opted to go for an automatic transmission. Hyundai offers three types of automatic transmissions with the i20 including a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual), CVT and the 7-speed DCT. Where the CVT is offered with the 1.2-litre petrol engine (88PS/114Nm), the 6iMT and 7DCT are available with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (120PS/172Nm) only.

The new i20 is only the second car, after the Altroz, in its segment to be offered with a diesel engine. This has also helped the premium hatchback in receiving such a response as 20 per cent of the total bookings are said to be for the diesel variants. The i20 is powered by a 1.5-litre engine making 100PS and 240Nm mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Hyundai is not offering an option of an automatic transmission with the i20 diesel.

Prices of the 2020 i20 range from Rs 6.80 lakh to Rs 11.33 lakh (ex-showroom India). These are introductory prices and are applicable till 31 December 2020 only. Hyundai will increase prices of the i20 in January 2021. Along with this, the carmaker might also launch a new base-spec Era variant of the i20 to keep the base price competitive. The i20 competes with likes of the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Honda Jazz, Tata Altroz and the Volkswagen Polo.
