South Korean automaker Hyundai has finally unveiled the facelift version of the Tuscon crossover at the 2018 New York International Auto Show. One of the top-selling models for the South Korean auto major in international markets, the 2019 Tucson also gets subtle design updates and some new features. The updated Tucson is India-bound and is expected to be launched in the country by the end of this year.
Mechanically, In USA the next-gen Hyundai Tuscon will come two engine options- a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit which produces a maximum power output of 164 hp and 205 Nm of peak torque while the other is the range-topping 2.4-litre four-cylinder mill churning out 181 hp and 237 Nm torque. The automaker has replaced the 1.6-litre turbo motor and produces 6 hp more but the torque rating is reduced by 28 Nm. The crossover SUV will be available in five different variants namely Value, SE, SEL, Sport and Limited while the entry-level Value and SE are to be offered only with the 2.0-litre engine, the other variants will receive the new 2.4-litre motor.
In the Indian market, currently the existing Tuscon comes powered by a 2.0-litre four cylinder turbocharged diesel mill developing 182 bhp and 400 Nm and is mated to six-speed manual and automatic transmissions while the 153 bhp, 192Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol produces 153 bhp and 192 Nm and is also connected to six-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The upcoming Tuscon might receive the same engine options with an update, however there is no such confirmation from the auto maker itself.
In terms of updated features, the 2019 Hyundai Tuscon will be offered with new headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lights, reworked bumpers up at the front, while in side profile, the Tucson gets a set of new design alloy wheels that will be available in 17-, 18-, and 19-inch diameters and the rear-end of the Tucson facelift gets an updated bumper, new taillamps, and a new muffler cutter. At the inside the upcoming SUV will offer a new dashboard with new 7-inch floating-type touchscreen display for the infotainment unit which carries a thoroughly redesigned center stash, new central aircon vents and a new instrument cluster, and a new design for the leather seats and new rear view mirror.
An electronic parking brake, USB charger for the second-row of seats, and Qi wireless charging facility are the other changes to be found inside the 2019 Tuscon crossover. The safety features include Lane Keeping Assist and Forward Collision Avoidance while optionally buyers can go for High Beam Assist, Rain Sensing wipers, Surround View Monitor, Smart Cruise with Stop and Go, Driver attention warning, Forward Collision Avoidance with Pedestrian Detection as standard and many more.
Currently in India, Hyundai Tuscon is sold in six variants and comes priced between Rs. 20.73 lakh (on-road, New Delhi) and Rs 29.86 lakh (on-road, New Delhi). The crossover SUV gets only the front-wheel drive setup in all the variants but the AT GLS Diesel variant and takes against the likes of Jeep Compass, Volkswagen Tiguan and Honda CR-V in the country.
