Kia Sonet Achieves 1.5 Lakh Sales Within 2 Years Since Launch | V3Cars

Kia India have tasted success with their compact and sub-4m compact SUVs. While the Kia Seltos crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone in just above 12 months, its younger sibling – the Kia Sonet – has now crossed the 1.5 lakh sales milestone within 2 years since launch.

Kia Sonet

Kia India launched the Sonet back in September 2020 at a starting price of Rs. 6.71 lakh ex-showroom. Kia India have stated that the Sonet commands close to 15% market share in the sub-4m SUV segment. In addition to that, the Sonet contributes 1/3rd of all sales for the South Korean carmaker. Kia currently sell the Sonet, Seltos, Carnival, Carens and the recently-launched EV6 in India.

25% of all Kia Sonet sales are for the auto-clutch manual transmission variant or iMT in Kia speak. In addition to that, 26% of Sonet buyers opt for the top-spec HTX+ and GTX+ variants. While the segment is shunning away from diesel powertrains, 41% of all Kia Sonet’s sold are diesel variants.

Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India, said, We are delighted that Sonet has added 1.5 Lakh customers to the Kia India family. Today's evolved urban Indian customer is dynamic, tech-savvy, and bold, and we are incredibly proud to have developed a product that has proven to be the right companion for them. The Sonet has won several accolades not only for its design, performance, and practicality but also by creating favorability for iMT and introducing the only Diesel AT in the segment. In April this year, we added 4 airbags as standard across even the lower variants of Sonet, further enhancing the vehicle's safety and propelling its popularity."
