Japanese automaker Lexus has introduced its most affordable offering NX 300h SUV in the country. Although the automaker didn’t confirm anything regarding the official launch date except that the SUV will be launched by January 2018. The Lexus NX300h will be available in India in two variants – the F Sport and Luxury models. The youngest offering by the automaker NX 300h sits below the company's RX450h hybrid that is on sale in the Indian car market since the beginning of 2017. The bookings for the car had already commenced at the company's dealerships across India at a token amount of Rs 5 lakh while the deliveries are expected to start from March 2018.
Addressing the media at the event, Akitoshi Takemura, President, Lexus India, said, “The Lexus NX300h brings to life the qualities which set us apart and delivers a lifestyle that is uniquely Lexus. This premium urban sports gear delivers exceptional design and comfort and is a fashionable car that suits urban style and use. The strikingly bold design of the NX 300h is coupled with the performance of a hybrid electric vehicle that makes this a cool SUV.” He further added, “The luxurious new Lexus NX300h is all about what an automobile could be breathtakingly striking from every angle and unique in its personality. This is a vehicle crafted for the urban sophisticate who is arriving in signature style.”
Under the hood, the Lexus NX 300h gets a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol hybrid system capable of producing 194 hp when combined with the electric motor and 210Nm of torque which is sent to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox. The Lexus NX 300h accelerates from 0-100kph in 9.2 seconds and has a top speed of 180kph and returns an ARAI certified mileage of 18.32 kmpl.
At the exterior, the SUV gets bold trapezoidal grille at the front with sharp LED headlights giving a stylish and elegant look. It also gets company badging on the front grille with a blue background indicating that the SUV is a hybrid unit. The flared wheel arches and plastic cladding enhance the overall appeal of the SUV. The Lexus NX 300h also gets sunroof, ventilated seats at the front and a two zone climate control system. The car also features a heads up display along with a navigation system that comes standard across both variants.
At the interior, the premium crossover gets soft touch materials and high quality leather while the cabin gets soft touch materials and high quality leather. A 360° panoramic surround view monitor, which uses four high-definition cameras to simulate a top-down view of the vehicle, is another highlight of the Lexus NX 300h. This view spins to show surrounding vehicles, pedestrians, and obstacles, and includes position projections to demonstrate the vehicle's path at slow speed. Safety features include 8 airbags, ABS + vehicle stability control and an anti-theft system.
The new Lexus NX 300h was showcased at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show and India has received the said facelifted model only. To be introducing in the country as CBU unit, it is expected to be priced in the range of INR 60 lakh to 65 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India) and will be placed against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Audi Q3 in terms of size.
