All-new 2022 C-Class 220d Is Now The Most Fuel-Efficient Mercedes-Benz In India | V3Cars

Mercedes-Benz India took the wraps off the 2022 C-Class on May 5. The 2022 C-Class is larger than before and gets several technological and mechanical changes over the outgoing model. At the event, Mercedes-Benz revealed that the C-Class is now the most fuel-efficient Mercedes offering in India, with a claimed fuel efficiency of 23kmpl. But how has Mercedes achieved this feat when the A-Class is smaller and lighter than the C-Class and has a less powerful engine? Read on to find out.

The 5th generation C-Class, which will be launched on May 10, is the first diesel car from Mercedes to boast mild-hybrid technology. Hence, it manages to offer a better fuel efficiency than the smaller A-Class, which is not only less powerful but also lighter. The 48V mild-hybrid technology of the C-Class boosts the engine with 20PS of power and 200Nm of torque when needed. In addition to that, it also assists the engine in Eco mode to further increase the overall fuel efficiency. The electric motor of the mild-hybrid system tech is sandwiched between the engine and the transmission.

C-Class Fuel Efficiency

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class 220d gets a 2.0L turbo diesel engine. The engine’s power and torque output stand at 200PS and 440Nm. If we count the additional boost from the hybrid system, the combined power and torque output increase to 220PS and 640Nm respectively. The 48V mild-hybrid tech is standard with other engine options of the C-Class as well, including the C200 petrol and C300d diesel.
