MG E230 2-Door Micro EV Spied Testing In India | V3Cars

The MG E230 was recently spied testing on Indian roads wearing heavy camouflage. The E230 is a 2-door micro EV based on the Wuling Air EV. MG are likely to unveil the India-spec E230 at Auto Expo 2023. It is likely to go on sale by 2024. MG will place the E230 as an entry-level compact city electric car.

The spied car was wearing heavy camouflage, but thanks to its quirky design, it is easy to make out that the car was the MG E230. The E230 measures around 2900mm long, making it a lot shorter than even the Tata Nano. It's worth noting that the Nano has 4 doors while the E230 is a 2-door car.

The E230 sold in Indonesia runs on 12-inch steel wheels. The Indian version is likely to make use of alloy wheels to complement the unique look of the EV. The spied car also had a spare wheel mounted on its tailgate. As the car is very small, MG will pitch the E230 as a high-tech urban runabout.

MG are likely to pack the E230 with many features. We expect features like a big touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, full-colour TFT instrument cluster, ambient light, etc.

The E230 could pack a 20kWh battery pack, which should be good enough for a real-world range of 250km on a single charge according to ARAI test cycle. MG are likely to tweak the E230 to suit Indian climate conditions. We can expect changes to the battery management system and air conditioning.

As the E230 is very small and impractical to be your only car, it could be an ideal second or third car for many households, especially for inter-city travel. MG Motor India are likely to source the batteries for the E230 locally from Tata AutoComp to keep costs in check. We expect the E230 to cost under Rs. 10 lakh and upon launch, it will have no competition. MG are also readying a sub-Rs. 15 lakh electric crossover tailored specially for the Indian market.
