Skoda is working very hard to implement its aggressive product strategy in order to strengthen its presence in the global auto industry. The Czech automaker is busy preparing as many as 9 new car models to be launched internationally in the coming 3 years’ time. Among these 9 new upcoming launches, most are the new generation models of Skoda’s existing cars. Skoda’s bestselling model – the Skoda Octavia sedan is readying up to come in its all new fourth generation model in 2020. The smallest model in the Skoda lineup, the Fabia will get its next generation model in 2021, while the Skoda Rapid sedan will also enter its next generation within this period.
Apart from the sedan models, Skoda will also be introducing the new Kodiaq vRS and the Kodiaq GT versions of the flagship SUV model within this current the financial year. The Czech car manufacturing company is also busy working on its new upcoming entry-level SUV model that is based on the Vision X concept. This new smallest Skoda SUV will be launched next year, and will be making its way into the car market of India in 2020.
Skoda’s flagship salon, the Superb will also be getting a major update in 2019, while the Citigo is getting ready to receive its new electric version also in 2019. The electric version will be named as the Skoda Citigo E, and it will be the first ever electric vehicle from the house of Skoda. It will also be the first model to be underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MEB EV platform. Moreover, towards the end of 2020, Skoda will also be launching the Vision E electric crossover model. This e-crossover model will also be based on the MEB platform and will have the capability to offer a travel range of over 300 miles on a single charge.
The next generation Skoda Octavia will be underpinned by the updated version of MQB platform from Skoda’s German parent company Volkswagen Group. This will make the next-gen Octavia compatible with both plug-in hybrid as well as 48-volt mild-hybrid technologies. The 2020 Octavia will be endowed with a hybrid powertrain as well. The next-gen Octavia petrol version is likely to get powered by a 1.5 litre TSI petrol engine, while the diesel version of the sedan is expected to get equipped with an all-new 1.5 litre diesel motor that is on the anvil, as per the reports.
On the other hand, the next generation Skoda Rapid sedan will be based on the Volkswagen MQB AO platform, which also underpins the new Volkswagen Polo and Virtus sedan models. The next-gen Rapid is expected to hit the car market of India sometime in 2021. The all-new Rapid will be using the locally developed MQB AO IN platform in India to be more cost effective.
When the new upcoming Vision X concept based Skoda compact SUV is concerned, it is speculated to be named as Anuq or Amiq. This smallest Skoda SUV will be sharing the under the hood mechanical bits with the Volkswagen T-ROC and Seat Arona models.
