Renault Duster Discontinued In India - New Gen SUV Coming Soon | V3Cars

Renault have stopped the production of the Duster in India after almost a decade since its introduction. Over the years, the Duster received minimal changes, leading to poor sales. While Renault launched the second-gen Duster in several international markets in 2017, we never received the updated SUV on our shores. However, we could expect to see the third-gen Duster in India by next year.

Renault Duster

Renault launched the Duster in July 2012. When launched, the Duster was the most popular C-segment SUV in India. However, Renault only gave it very minimal changes over the last decade. In the last few months, Duster sales fell to three digits; sometimes even two! The recent dip in sales could be the reason why Renault have decided to discontinue the SUV in India.

The decline in the sales of the Duster was foreseen. As the competition pulled ahead by providing newer styling and the latest features, the Duster started to show its age. Also, Renault discontinued the 4-wheel-drive variant of the Duster, which was one of its highlights, during the transition to BS6 emission norms.

Renault and Dacia launched the second-gen Duster in European markets in 2017. Even though we never got the second-gen Duster in India, we expect Renault to launch the third-gen Duster in India next year or 2024.

The last iteration of the Duster sold in India had the option of two petrol engines – a 1.5L normal petrol producing 106PS of power and a 1.3L turbo-petrol producing 156PS of power. Renault priced the Duster between Rs. 9.86 lakh and Rs. 14.25 lakh. It rivalled the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Nissan Kicks, and the Maruti Nexa S-Cross.
