Indian SUV master Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to launch a slew of new models to reinforce its position in the home market. Mahindra is bracing up to launch its flagship model in the form of the re-badged Ssangyong Rexton G4 SUV. The first generation Rexton has been selling in India under the Ssangyong brand name, but Mahindra has decided not to use its Korean subsidiary Ssangyong’s name in India, as it is a relatively unknown brand here. Thus, the new generation Rexton will be wearing the Mahindra badge in the Indian car market. The Ssangyong Rexton G4 has been testing in India for quite some time now, and the SUV has again spotted on the Indian roads recently.
We already know what to expect from the new-gen Rexton in terms of exterior design and features. Mahindra & Mahindra had introduced the SUV model to India at the 2018 Auto Expo, earlier this year. The new generation Rexton that is also rumoured to be rebadged as the Mahindra XUV700, will be launched in the Indian market around the upcoming festive season and will go up against the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the likes in the Indian premium 7-seater SUV segment. As Mahindra & Mahindra is known to offer affordably priced products, its flagship model is also likely to come with aggressive pricing to beat stiff competition in the country.
The second generation Ssangyong Rexton is a more premium and feature rich model than its predecessor, and it comes with more matured and appealing looks as well. The vehicle also gets endowed with enhanced mechanical abilities, resulting in more dynamic performance. Under the Mahindra name, the new-gen Rexton is expected to get better sales rates in the Indian car market this time around. The new Rexton will be a major launch from the house of Mahindra & Mahindra after the launch of the XUV500 facelift and the upcoming new U321 MPV model.
As per the company, the all new Rexton will be coming to the Indian market equipped with a 2.2 litre diesel engine, which has the capability to offer a max power output of 178 PS along with a top torque of 420 Nm. This diesel motor has been paired to a sophisticated 7 speed automatic transmission gearbox sourced from Mercedes-Benz. The SUV will get all four wheel drive system as well. In the international markets, the Rexton SUV is also available with a 6 speed manual transmission gearbox, but in India, only the automatic variant is expected to be available.
Mahindra & Mahindra has already clarified the doubts by confirming that the Ssangyong G4 Rexton will be rebranded in India under the Mahindra name. The official name of the model’s has not yet been revealed by the company, nor has its launch timeline has been announced.
The all-new Mahindra flagship model will be boasting of premium features such as HID headlights, electric sunroof, 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS, dual-zone climate control, 9 airbags, ventilated seats, electric parking brake and much more.
