Tata Motors Reports 63 Per Cent Sales Growth In June 2018
With 18,213 units sold in June 2018, sales have grown for Tata Motors by a massive 63 per cent in passenger vehicle segment in comparison to the numbers of June 2017 where the Indian auto giant sold only 11,716 units. However, Tata Motors showcased a growth of 54 per cent overall in the month of June 2018 as compared to the same time period in 2017. The overall sales by Tata Motors in June 2018 stood at 56,773 units as compared to only 36,836 units in the previous year.
Not only in passenger vehicle segment, but in the commercial vehicle segment the sales chart clocked 38,560 units up by 50 per cent as compared to 25,660 units in June 2017. Talking about the first quarter results for the current financial year 2018-2019, the Indian automaker showed huge improvement with overall sales figures at 1,64,579 units with a growth of 64 per cent as compared to the first quarter in the last financial year. The cumulative sales of for the fiscal (April-June 2018) stand at 52,937 units, up 52 percent over 34,858 units sold during April-June 2017. Tata Motors reports exports (CV and PV) in June 2018 of 5,246 units, up 50 percent from 3,504 units in June 2017.
Talking about the sales growth, Recording a strong CV sales performance, Girish Wagh, President, Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “We are pleased to end the first quarter of FY19 with a robust growth in our sales performance, crossing the 1 lakh sales mark with 71% growth. In June 2018, our commercial vehicles domestic business reported an increase of 50% on the back of the economy continuing to show an uptick due to the improved industrial activity, robust private consumption and government spending on infrastructure.”
The automaker also released a statement stating that the cumulative sales growth of commercial vehicle in the domestic market for the quarter (April-June 2018) was at 111,642 units, a growth of 71 per cent, compared to 65,283 units in the same period last fiscal. It further stated that post the Supreme Court ruling on BS-III to BS-IV transition, sales were affected last year as there was huge pre-buy and also a limited supply of BS-IV vehicles. The sales last year for the June month were compacted owing to the Supreme Court ruling on BSIII to BSIV transition resulting in huge pre-buy and limited supply of BSIV vehicles. Growth through April-June 2018 is attributed to improved industrial activity, demand in private consumption, and government spending on the infrastructure.;
The major contributors in this sales growth by Tata Motors include the newly added products by the automaker in its line-up such as the Tiago hatchback, the Tigor sub-compact sedan, the Nexon sub-compact SUV and the Hexa seven seat SUV. Also, the automaker recently launched automatic gearbox version of the Nexon SUV to take against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza AMT and the Ford Ecosport SUV as well as the Tiago hatchback by the manufacturer also crossed 2 lakh units milestone recently.
