Tata Motors have been testing the Tiago and Tigor CNG for a long time but the wait is now going to end. As per a new report, some dealers have now commenced unofficial bookings for both the Tiago and Tigor CNG. We expect Tata Motors to commence the bookings officially in the coming weeks ahead of the launch that we expect to take place in January.

Both the Tiago and Tigor CNG will retain the same 1.2L normal petrol engine. However, when running on CNG, the Tiago and Tigor will offer lower power and torque output. The petrol engine in the Tiago and Tigor puts out 86PS and 113Nm of torque. With the CNG kit, we expect the same engine to offer around 70PS and 90Nm of torque. Tata Motors may launch the Tiago and Tigor CNG with the manual gearbox only. With the petrol variants, Tata Motors will continue to offer both 5-speed manual and AMT options.

The Tiago and Tigor CNG could cost Rs. 80,000 - 90,000 more than the petrol models. Both the CNG models may offer a claimed fuel economy of around 30kmpkg making them extremely cost efficient for daily driving. Tata Tiago CNG will compete with other CNG cars in the similar price range like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Santro and Maruti Suzuki WagonR. Maruti Suzuki are also planning to bring the Dzire and Swift CNG to meet the demand of CNG car buyers.
