BYD Unveiled 2nd Gen Blade Battery (Press Release) | V3Cars

BYD unveiled the 2nd Generation Blade Battery along with their new FLASH Charging technology. The announcement highlighted major improvements in EV charging speed and battery performance. The development aimed to address key consumer concerns such as charging time and low-temperature performance.

BYD Unveiled 2nd Gen Blade Battery

Here’s what BYD have to say about the 2nd Generation Blade Battery and FLASH Charging technology:

BYD unveiled the 2nd Generation Blade Battery and FLASH Charging Technology, addressing two of the most persistent challenges facing electric vehicles: slow charging speeds and poor low-temperature charging performance. With these advancements, BYD set a new benchmark for charging speed, enabling vehicles to charge from 10% to 70% State of Charge (SOC) in just five minutes and reach 97% charge in nine minutes. Even in extreme low temperatures such as -30°C, the charging time from 20% to 97% increases by only three minutes compared to charging at room temperature. Alongside the technology launch, BYD also announced plans to build 20,000 FLASH Charging Stations across China, with global rollout planned by the end of 2026.

Charging Speed Remains a Concern for Consumers and the Society

Despite the rapid growth of the global EV market, consumers continue to face concerns such as range anxiety, long queues at charging stations during peak travel periods, and significantly slower charging speeds in winter conditions. These issues not only create stress for users but also contribute to inefficient resource utilisation and increased infrastructure costs associated with traditional charging systems. Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, emphasised that the industry must address these persistent challenges, particularly slow charging speeds and poor low-temperature charging performance.

BYD 2nd Generation Blade Battery: a New Frontier in Battery Power

Through six years of intensive research and development, the 2nd Generation Blade Battery delivers a charging experience designed to match the speed of traditional refuelling.

In conventional battery engineering, fast charging and high energy density are often considered technically conflicting goals. BYD stated that it has addressed this trade-off by increasing energy density by 5% compared to the first-generation Blade Battery while significantly improving charging speed. Equipped with the 2nd Generation Blade Battery, the DENZA Z9GT features BYD’s latest lightweight vehicle structure, enabling it to achieve a class-leading range of 1,036 kilometres.

To minimise internal heat generation and improve heat dissipation, BYD developed a “Lithium-Ion High-Speed Channel” along with a “Full-Spectrum Intelligent Thermal Management System.” This aligns with BYD’s philosophy that “safety is the ultimate luxury of NEVs.” The 2nd Generation Blade Battery has undergone multiple safety tests that exceed China’s national standards, aimed at addressing consumer concerns around battery safety.

The 2nd Generation Blade Battery offers significantly faster charging speeds, a range exceeding 1,000 kilometres, and enhanced automotive safety, representing a new phase in power battery innovation.

BYD FLASH Charging: Responsible Energy Solution

To enable these record-breaking charging speeds, BYD developed the FLASH Charger with a world-leading single-connector output of 1,500 kW. Paired with a high-capacity energy storage system, the infrastructure is designed to bypass grid capacity limitations without overstressing the local power network, positioning it as a grid-friendly charging solution within the EV charging ecosystem.

BYD FLASH Charging Station: Charging Experience Redefined and Accessible

Traditional public charging points are often criticised for being cumbersome, unhygienic, inflexible, and requiring complex authentication processes that affect the overall user experience. To address these challenges, the FLASH charger introduces the world’s first T-shaped pulley charging design. Its “Zero-Gravity” mechanism allows users to move the connector effortlessly to either side of the vehicle while keeping the charging cables elevated and clean.

BYD plans to construct 20,000 FLASH Charging Stations across China by the end of 2026 and gradually expand the network globally. Once operational, these stations will be accessible to the public, supporting wider EV adoption and accelerating the transition toward electrified transportation.

Driven by the "Three Green Dreams": Accelerating Global Mobility Electrification

In 2006, BYD introduced the “Three Green Dreams,” a vision that has since become the lifelong mission of Wang Chuanfu. Over nearly two decades of sustained efforts, the vision has steadily progressed, culminating in the development of the integrated Solar-Storage-Charging (SSC) FLASH Charging technology.

BYD has consistently emphasised the role of technology in advancing sustainable mobility. With the introduction of the 2nd Generation Blade Battery and FLASH Charging technology, the company aims to further accelerate the global transition toward electric and intelligent mobility while supporting the development of a greener future.
