Hyundai India are likely to showcase the Nexo SUV at the Auto Expo 2023. Let’s discuss the details like expected dimensions and engine specs, expected launch timeline, rivals and expected price of the Hyundai Nexo.

Hyundai have been rigorously testing alternative-fuel vehicles and the Nexo is one of them. The Nexo SUV by Hyundai runs on hydrogen and is currently on sale in several global markets. Hydrogen-powered electric vehicles show more promise than regular electric vehicles as they can be refueled very quickly and conveniently and provide a better range.
In simple terms, a hydrogen-powered FCEV has a stack of fuel cells which are charged with a reaction of hydrogen and air. Once charged, the generated electricity powers the vehicle’s electric motor. It is possible to produce hydrogen using renewable sources of electricity and with the necessary infrastructure, it takes just a few minutes to refuel a vehicle. Several carmakers like Toyota and Honda are analysing the feasibility of hydrogen-powered vehicles in India. Toyota recently launched a project in collaboration with the Indian government’s testing agency iCAT to test the Mirai FCEV.

The Hyundai Nexo is already on sale in global markets, but Hyundai are unlikely to launch the car in India anytime soon. Check out the Nexo SUV’s specifications (US model) in the table below:
If launched in India, the Hyundai Nexo will compete with cars like Kia EV6, Mercedes Benz EQB and Volvo XC40 Recharge.

We do not expect Hyundai to launch the Nexo SUV at the 2023 Auto expo. However, the South Korean carmaker is likely to showcase this car at the expo to garner more interest towards hydrogen-powered FCEVs. Hyundai also have a Nexon SUV on display at their India headquarters in Gurugram.
The Nexo FCEV is unlikely to be launched in India anytime soon, but hypothetically, if the car was launched with the same specs as the global version, it would classify as a D1-segment SUV. Considering the price range of its competitors, the Nexo FCEV is likely to cost between Rs. 60.00 lakh to Rs. 70.00 lakh.
