American auto major Ford has achieved the highly important 1 million vehicle sales milestone in the car market of India. India is a highly competitive and rapidly growing car market, and thus several auto majors of the world are eager to increase their footprints in this country’s vast auto industry. However, it is indeed very difficult to achieve huge sales milestones in the Indian car market, as it is dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai India. The sales targets have been pretty hard to achieve for Ford India as well, but the company has managed to cross the major 1 million sales milestone in India in a little more than 20 years of operations in the Indian market, ever since the American auto major established itself in this country.
Ford India has big plans for the Indian car market and plans to launch many new models to boost its sales in the domestic car market. Ford announced its achievement of selling over 1 million cars in India recently, and the company’s one millionth car model to be sold was its latest product in India – the Ford Freestyle. The one millionth car model to be sold from the house of Ford India, the Ford Freestyle was delivered to the customer during a celebratory event in New Delhi.
In the last two decades of its operations in the Indian car market, Ford has offered quite some successful models including the Ford Ikon (which was really a sort of icon in India), the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Figo. However, the Ford Endeavour 7-seater premium SUV and the Ford EcoSport have been the most successful in India, the terms of sales. Ford also offers the Aspire compact sedan and the Freestyle compact utility vehicle in the Indian car market, both of which are based on the Figo hatchback. The American auto major is working to boost its sales in the Indian car market by planning to launch a slew of new models.
In order to prepare for better sales and positioning in the Indian car market in the future, Ford has entered into a partnership with the Indian auto major Mahindra & Mahindra. The Indo-American joint venture will witness the co-development of SUV models as well as electric vehicle models. The two companies will also share technology and engines in order to get equally benefitted.
Owing to the launch of the new updated EcoSport and the new Freestyle models, Ford India has recorded the cumulative domestic sales of 8,444 vehicles in the month of June 2018, accounting for a good sales growth of 37 percent as compared against the sales of 6,149 units in June last year.
Currently, Ford India is busy preparing to launch the refreshed models of the Figo hatchback and Aspire compact sedan later this year. Ford dealers across the country are clearing the inventory of the ongoing models. The Ford dealerships in different cities are offering heavy cash discounts of up to Rs. 1 lakhs, while other benefits, exchange bonus and 0 percent interest are also available on the current Figo and Aspire.
