Hyundai Exter Twin CNG Cylinder Powertrain Specs
The 2024 Exter Hy-CNG Duo is powered by a 1.2-litre bi-fuel engine. The engine comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission only. It produces 69PS of power and 95.2Nm of torque. Hyundi claim the Exter CNG delivers an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency or mileage of 27.1kmpl. Hyundai have stated that the company-fitted CNGsystem comes with a 3-year warranty to ensure maximum reliability and safety.
Having twin smaller cylinders allows manufacturers to offer more usable boot space without compromising on CNG capacity. For example, Tata Motors introduced their twin-cylinder technology last year where they eliminated the need for a big 60-litre tank in the luggage area by opting for smaller 30-litre tanks that sit below a slightly raised but flat and more usable boot. Tata’s twin-cylinder CNG tech is now available in all of their CNG cars, including the Altroz, Punch, Tigor and Tiago.
Meanwhile, Hyundai are likely to expand their CNG lineup by offering models such as the i20 and Venue with CNG bi-fuel powertrains. The i20 and the Venue share the same 1.2L petrol engine with the Grand i10 Nios, Aura and Exter. So we expect these models to arrive soon. Hyundai were also spied testing the Creta CNG as far back as 2022. The Kia Carens, which gets the same naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Creta and Verna, too was spied with a CNG powertrain recently. Hence, we expect the CNG variants of the Creta to arrive by late-2024 or early 2025. Hyundai are also developing an all-electric powertrain for the Creta SUV and you can read more about it by clicking the link below.
