Hyundai Introduce RDE And E20 Ready Engines With Grand i10 Nios Facelift | V3Cars
Hyundai India launched the Grand i10 Nios today at a starting price of Rs. 5.69 lakh ex-showroom. Along with a couple of new features, the Grand i10 Nios also gets RDE-compliant and E20-ready engine options.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios With RDE-Complaint And E20-Ready Engines
The Grand i10 Nios facelift is the first car in its segment to offer real driving emission (RDE) compliant engines. Additionally, the engine options of the new Grand i10 Nios are also E20-ready, meaning they can run on a 20% blend of ethanol with petrol fuel.

The government plans to introduce RDE emission tests on April 1, 2023 along with the introduction of BS6 Phase-II emission norms. The latest emission regulations are stricter than the current BS6 emission norms. RDE emission norms require a vehicle to emit less than a certain amount of CO2 emission in realistic driving situations. The BS6 norms, on the other hand, are tested in laboratory conditions.
Furthermore, the petrol engines of the Grand i10 Nios are also E20 fuel-ready. Currently, fuel stations in the country offer E10 fuel, which consists of 90% regular unleaded petrol and 10% ethanol. By 2025, the Indian government plans to introduce E20 fuel, which will increase the amount of ethanol to 20%. While the supply of E20 fuel is a couple of years away, as per Hyundai, the Grand i10 Nios is ready to run E20 fuel from the factory. The arch rival of the Grand i10 Nios — Maruti Suzuki Swift – will become E20-compliant by March 2023.

Hyundai offer the Grand i10 Nios facelift with 2 engine choices. It comes with a 1.2L normal petrol and a 1.2L petrol-CNG and the former comes with the option of a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automated manual transmission. The outgoing Nios also offered the choice of a 1.0L turbo petrol engine and a 1.2L turbo diesel engine. However, Hyundai have no plans to reintroduce the 1.0L turbo petrol engine and 1.2L turbo diesel engine in the Grand i10 Nios in the foreseeable future.
