The journey included rocky terrains, the sand dunes of Jaisalmer and the large expanse of salt flat in the Rann of Kutch. Abhimanyu Alsisar, Prince of Alsisar, undertook the challenge with the new Compass Trailhawk and decided not to follow any concrete roads. The journey started from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan and ended at the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. During the 3 days of driving, the temperature went as high as 40 degrees whereas it fell to freezing cold in the night.

The Compass Trailhawk gets some nifty additions over the regular Compass 4WD. The rock mode is exclusive to the Compass Trailhawk, which works flawlessly alongside hill descent control. To take on the treacherous terrain, the Trailhawk also gets a 1-inch suspension lift and 17-inch all-terrain tyres. The regular Compass, on the other hand, gets 18-inch road tyres. What would have also helped during the challenge is the added underbody protection and better approach, departure and break-over angles of the Compass Trailhawk.

The Compass Trailhawk shares its powertrain with the regular Compass. Its 2.0L turbo diesel engine produces 172PS of power at 3700rpm-3800rpm and 350Nm of torque at 1750rpm-2500rpm. The engine comes mated to a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission and 4-wheel-drive. The Compass 4WD gets an integrated low ratio inside the automatic transmission casing. Thus, it doesn’t require a transfer case and this clever technology is said to decrease transferring losses.
