However, the details of the 2018 cross-hatch by Tata have got leaked on the internet ahead of its scheduled reveal.
As the name suggests, the Tiago NRG is based on the Tiago hatchback and Tata Motors has worked to make it quite rugged to bring as the cross-hatchback. Cross-hatchbacks are currently on high demand in the Indian market and the automaker surely wants to take complete advantage of that. The 2018 Tiago NRG measuring 3793 mm in length, 1,665 mm in width and 1,587 mm in height will be longer, wider and taller than the standard Tiago. Though, the wheelbase remains the same at 2,400 mm while the ground clearance has increased to 180 mm, up by 10 mm.
According to the leaked details, the upcoming Tiago NRG will feature black body kit featuring dual-tone bumpers (front and rear) with aux brushed-aluminium scuff plates, black side skirts and black cladding around all four wheel arches along with front grille, roof, rear view mirror caps, rear spoiler and the B-pillar,all finished in black. At the rear, the tailgate has a thick black section that connects both the tail lamps, the Tiago badge on the left and NRG logo on the right, a set of 4-spoke 14-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and 3 dual-tone exterior color options - Malabar Silver, Canyon Orange and Fuji White.
At the interior, the upcoming Tata Tiago NRG will offer the dashboard identical to the regular Tiago models barring orange and silver inserts around the AC vents, Electrically adjustable mirrors, cooled glove box, 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that doubles as a display for the reverse camera and Harman sound system, the seats with fixed headrests and wrapped in grey fabric upholstery with orange highlights. Safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control will be offered as standard.
Though the cross-hatch will offer a number of cosmic changes, the powertrain options remain the same for the Tiago NRG compared to the standard Tiago. The Tiago NRG will continue to come powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol motor that produces 84 bhp and 114 Nm along with a 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel engine that produces 69 bhp and 140 Nm. Both the engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while AMT is not expected anytime soon.
The pricing details for the Tiago NRG have not been revealed yet but we expect Tata to price it at a premium over the Tiago. It is expected to be the cheapest cross-hatch in the country. When launched, the 2018 Tiago NRG will take against the likes of the Ford Freestyle and the Maruti Suzuki CelerioX in the Indian market.
