Mahindra Thar 2WD Launched At Rs. 9.99 Lakh | V3Cars

Mahindra have launched the new Thar 2WD variants at an introductory price of Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Thar 2WD is available in 3 variants with prices ranging from Rs. 9.99 lakh to Rs. 13.49 lakh. The introductory prices are valid only for the first 10,000 customers. Deliveries of the Thar 2WD variants will commence on January 14. Mahindra have also introduced 2 new colours – Blazing Bronze and Everest White – for the Thar 2WD.

The introduction of the Thar 2WD variants have made the rugged SUV a lot more affordable for potential customers. By taking advantage of the Thar’s sub-4 metre length and the introduction of the smaller 1.5L turbo diesel engine, which belongs to a lower tax bracket, the Thar’s entry-level price now starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh. The Thar 4WD equipped with the 2.2L turbo diesel and 2.0L turbo petrol engines do not qualify for the sub-4m tax slab as their engine displacement is over the mandated 1200cc limit for petrol and 1500cc for diesel. Hence, the Thar 2WD petrol variant, which comes equipped with the same 2.0L engine as the Thar 4WD variant, does not qualify for the sub-4m tax slab.

The Thar 2WD diesel variants are powered by the same 1.5L turbo diesel engine seen in the XUV300 and Marazzo. Since the XUV300 and Marzzo front-wheel-drive cars, the Thar 2WD diesel is the first time Mahindra has mated this engine to a rear-wheel drivetrain. It produces 118PS of power and 300Nm of torque. The 2.0L turbo petrol engine, on the other hand, produces 152PS of power and 320Nm of torque and only comes with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
