Mahindra Thar 5-door In The Works - Launch In 2023 | V3Cars

After the success of the Mahindra Thar, Mahindra and Mahindra are now working on the Thar 5-door. The Mahindra Thar 5-door will hit the market in 2023, as the Indian SUV maker revealed in its annual shareholder meeting. The Thar 5-door is likely to boast a longer wheelbase to offer seating for 5 adults as well as ample boot space.

The Mahindra Thar 5-door will target family buyers with its butch appeal and space. We expect Mahindra to tune the suspensions of the Thar 5-door to offer better on-road comfort and dynamics. However, we do not expect any big changes in the design over the 3-door, and it could retain the externally-hinged doors, both at the front and rear.

Thanks to the extended wheelbase, the Thar 5-door is likely to offer more space on the inside. Rear passengers could get more shoulder room as the rear wheel arches are unlikely to intrude into the space at the back like on the Thar 3-door. Mahindra could also offer a 7-seater version along with the standard 5-seater variants.

The Thar 5-door will feature the same 2.2L turbo diesel and 2.0L turbo petrol as the Thar 3-door. However, they are likely to be tuned like the 2022 Scorpio and not the current Thar 3-door. We expect Mahindra to announce the 2022 Scorpio in the coming months, followed by the Thar 5-door next year.

The Mahindra Thar 5-door will rival SUVs like the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door and Suzuki Jimny 5-door. We expect Mahindra to price the Thar 5-door at a premium of Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 80,000 over the Thar 3-door.
