Maruti Suzuki Trademarks Three New Names

by Saransh Goyal on Wednesday, Sep 16 2020

Maruti Suzuki is the largest carmaker in the country and it seems like the carmaker is looking to further expand its lead. The carmaker has recently trademarked three new names- Espaco, Libertas and Solido, which could be used to name its next generations of cars.

Although details about the new development remain scarce, sources have revealed that Maruti is working on a new small car which is touted to be the next-gen Alto by the insiders. Now with this latest development in mind, it remains to be seen whether the new small car will get the Alto name or not.

Even if Maruti renames the new Alto, it still leaves us with two other names which could be also used for the next-gen models. Suzuki already sells a WagonR-based MPV named Solio in the global market and it might use the Solido name for a WagonR-based MPV in India which is rumoured to be in works from a long time. It could also be used for the WagonR EV which is already being tested in the country and may go on sale in future.

Maruti might also use this name for the next-gen Celerio which is also expected to debut soon as the hatchback has already been spotted testing. That said, Maruti might also use these names for its affordable EVs which are being jointly developed by the Suzuki-Toyota JV.

So, at last, it is way too soon for any specifics on the usage of the registered names but all we can say is that Maruti is surely working on some new products for the Indian market and we might be able to sample one very soon with the launch of the next-gen Celerio.
