Upcoming Tata CNG Cars In India | V3Cars

Tata Motors entered the CNG car market this year with the launch of the Tiago and Tigor in their CNG avatars. Both the models have seen success as many buyers prefer a vehicle with a low running cost due to the all-time high fuel prices. Looking at the opportunity, Tata Motors are gearing up to launch the CNG versions of their other vehicles as well.

Tata Motors

Let us look into their details one by one.

1. Tata Altroz CNG

Altroz

The premium hatchback from Tata Motors already gets 3 engine options; a 1.2L normal petrol, a 1.2L turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel engine. To further expand its lineup, Tata Motors will soon introduce an option of CNG in the Altroz. The 1.2L normal petrol engine will likely get the CNG factory fitment. The same engine is available in the Tiago CNG and the Tigor CNG. We can expect the Altroz CNG to produce the same 72PS of power and 95Nm of torque as the Tiago and the Tigor CNG.

The Altroz CNG will most likely get the 5-speed manual transmission. Its competitors such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai i20 are also expected to get CNG variants soon. We expect the Altroz CNG to go on sale around this festive season i.e. October 2022.

2. Tata Nexon CNG

Nexon

The Tata Nexon is the highest selling product from Tata Motors. It gets the option of a 1.2L turbo-petrol and a 1.5L diesel engine. Various spy shots of Nexon running with an emission testing kit surfaced on the internet recently. This makes us believe that it is the upcoming Nexon CNG. The Nexon CNG will likely come fitted with the 1.2L turbo petrol engine.

When launched, it could be one of the first CNG cars in India with a turbocharged engine. It will also make the Nexon CNG one of the most powerful CNG cars in India. In its petrol avatar, the Nexon produces 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque. The power and torque will surely see a dip in the CNG variants. Upon launch, the Nexon CNG will rival the upcoming Maruti Brezza CNG and the Kia Sonet 1.0L turbo CNG. We expect the Nexon CNG to go on sale in India by the end of this year.

3. Tata Punch CNG

Punch

The Punch has been an immensely popular and successful product from Tata Motors thanks to its big SUV-like looks. It uses the same 1.2L normal petrol engine that we see in the Tiago, Tigor and the Altroz. This engine, when fitted with CNG, produces 72PS of power and 95Nm of torque in the Tiago and the Tigor CNG. We expect the Punch CNG to deliver similar power and torque output. The introduction of CNG will cater to the needs of buyers looking for an SUV-like vehicle with low running costs. We expect the Punch CNG to launch in 2023.
