The Hyundai Bayon HX8 CVT costs Rs. 19,800 less than the Maruti Grand Vitara Alpha (O) petrol-automatic. Both SUVs get a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, an 8-way powered driver seat and a 360-degree camera. The Bayon adds front and side parking sensors, a factory-fitted dashcam and a supplied spare tyre. The Grand Vitara counters with a head-up display, rear sunshades and higher claimed mileage. We compare their features, fuel costs and practicality.

The Bayon HX8 CVT costs Rs. 16,53,900, while the Grand Vitara Alpha (O) petrol AT costs Rs. 16,73,700. The Maruti SUV is Rs. 19,800 more expensive.
Their ex-showroom prices compare as follows:
*The Bayon’s price is introductory.
With several comfort features available in both, the Hyundai Bayon and Maruti Grand Vitara offer closely matched equipment at this budget. Their parking aids, cabin conveniences and fuel consumption provide clearer reasons to choose between these specific versions.
Both SUVs offer a panoramic sunroof, powered driver-seat adjustment, front-seat ventilation, automatic AC and a surround-view camera.
The following table lists their main common features:
The remaining differences concern parking assistance, cabin displays and rear-passenger convenience:
The Bayon’s front and side parking sensors add proximity warnings alongside its 360-degree camera. Its factory-fitted dashcam is useful for recording journeys, while the larger touchscreen provides more display area.
The Grand Vitara’s auto-dimming mirror reduces glare from vehicles behind without the need to flip a switch like in the Bayon. Its head-up display places key information higher in the driver’s field of view. Rear passengers also get built-in sunshades and an additional USB-C charging port.
Both SUVs use 1.5L non-turbo petrol engines with 4 cylinders. The Grand Vitara additionally gets mild-hybrid assistance.
Their automatic transmissions differ. The Bayon has a continuously variable transmission, or CVT, while the Grand Vitara uses a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.
Here’s how their specifications compare:
The Bayon produces approximately 12PS more peak power. However, the Bayon’s extra 12PS is partly offset by its 90kg higher weight. The performance gap may therefore be smaller than the power figures suggest, with gearbox response also influencing overtaking acceleration.
The Grand Vitara’s mild-hybrid system assists the petrol engine, recovers some energy during deceleration and supports automatic engine stop-start.
Its claimed mileage is 1.98kmpl higher than the Bayon’s. At these figures, the Grand Vitara would consume approximately 9.6 percent less petrol over the same distance.
Delhi’s petrol price is Rs. 102.12/litre on November 2, 2026. Using this price and the claimed mileage figures gives the following monthly fuel expenses:
Costs and savings are rounded independently to the nearest rupee. These calculations use claimed mileage; actual expenses depend on the mileage achieved.
At 1500km a month, the Grand Vitara’s estimated petrol saving works out to approximately Rs. 9,500 a year.
At these claimed figures, fuel savings alone would offset its Rs. 19,800 ex-showroom premium after approximately 37,500km. This calculation excludes differences in on-road charges, financing and maintenance.
The Grand Vitara is 100mm longer and 40mm taller. The Bayon is slightly wider, while both SUVs have the same wheelbase.
Their dimensions and practical specifications compare as follows:
#Hyundai claim a 505L boot capacity for the Bayon with no spare tyre fitted. The HX8 CVT comes with a spare tyre, and Hyundai have not published its boot capacity separately.
*Maruti quotes a 373L boot space only for the petrol-only versions.
The Bayon’s shorter body and smaller turning radius should help when manoeuvring in confined spaces. Both SUVs provide a 360-degree camera, while the Hyundai adds front and side parking sensors.
The supplied spare tyre is another practical Bayon advantage. The Grand Vitara’s standard repair kit can seal some small tread punctures, but it cannot deal with sidewall cuts or major tyre damage.
Both SUVs get 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, all-wheel disc brakes and tyre-pressure monitoring. Both also offer an electronic parking brake with brake hold.
The Bayon adds front and side parking sensors and a factory-fitted dashcam. The Grand Vitara counters with an auto-dimming inside mirror.
Neither the Bayon nor the Grand Vitara have been crash tested by Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP. Hyundai describes the Bayon as engineered for 5-star Indian safety standards.
Their standard warranties compare as follows:
The Grand Vitara’s standard warranty ends after 3 years or 1,00,000km, whichever comes first. The Bayon’s unlimited-distance cover mainly benefits owners who would cross 1,00,000km within those 3 years.
On paper, the Grand Vitara Alpha (O) AT is the stronger all-round choice in this pairing. Its Rs. 19,800 premium buys a head-up display, an auto-dimming mirror, rear sunshades and an air-quality display with automatic air-cleaning functionality. It matches the Bayon’s panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered driver seat and 360-degree camera. Its higher claimed mileage should also mean lower expenses at the pump.
The Bayon HX8 CVT makes more sense if parking assistance and a supplied spare tyre are higher priorities. It costs less, has a shorter body and smaller turning radius, and adds front and side parking sensors. The factory-fitted dashcam and larger touchscreen are further advantages.
For buyers prioritising cabin convenience and lower fuel costs, we recommend the Grand Vitara Alpha (O) AT. Choose the Bayon HX8 CVT if its parking equipment and factory-supplied spare better suit your usage.
