Let’s first look at the prices of both the cars for the petrol-manual powertrain.
The The Tata Punch’s petrol-manual range costs between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hyundai i20’s petrol-manual range costs between Rs. 7.00 lakh and Rs. 10.13 lakh(ex-showroom).
The Punch’s 13 petrol-automatic variants cost between Rs. 7.50 lakh and Rs. 10.10 lakh. The i20’s 3 petrol-automatic variants cost between Rs. 9.38 lakh and Rs. 11.16 lakh(ex-showroom).
The CNG-manual range of the Punch starts at Rs. 7.10 lakh and goes up to Rs. 9.68 lakh (ex-showroom). Hyundai i20 is not available with a CNG-manual powertrain.

The Tata Punch is an SUV while the Hyundai i20 is a hatchback. The Punch is 3827mm long, 1742mm wide and 1615mm tall. The Punch’s wheelbase is 2445mm long. The i20 measures 3995mm long, 1775mm wide and 1505mm tall and has a wheelbase measuring 2580mm. In terms of dimensions, the Tata Punch is slightly larger than the Hyundai i20. So, the Punch will offer a stronger road presence than the i20.
The Punch has a ground clearance of 187mm while the i20 has a ground clearance of 170mm. The 366-litre boot space of the Punch is 55 litres larger than that of the i20.
The Tata Punch only gets a 1.2L normal petrol engine, which is available with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT automatic transmission. The Punch’s 1.2L normal petrol engine makes 86PS of power at 6000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 3300rpm.
The Hyundai i20 only gets a 1.2L normal petrol engines. The 1.2L normal petrol makes 83PS with the 5-speed manual and 88PS of power with the CVT automatic at 6000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 4200rpm.

The Tata Punch is also available with a 1.2L normal CNG engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine makes 74PS of power at 6000rpm and 103Nm of torque at 3250rpm.
