Toyota currently offer the top-spec Innova Crysta ZX diesel at Rs. 26.36 lakh (ex-showroom). At nearly the same price, buyers can also opt for the Innova Hycross VX 7-seater at Rs. 26.30 lakh or the VX 8-seater at Rs. 26.35 lakh.

Since the prices are nearly identical, let's compare what each MPV offers and find out which one makes more sense for different types of buyers.
While the Hycross is the newer product, the top variant of the 2026 Innova Crysta still offers a few features and design elements that may appeal to traditional MPV buyers.

The Hycross VX offers a significantly more modern package and introduces several features missing in the Crysta.
Perhaps the biggest difference between these 2 MPVs lies under the bonnet. The Innova Crysta uses a 2.4L turbo diesel engine, while the Hycross VX is equipped with a 2.0L strong hybrid petrol powertrain. The Hycross has a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.1kmpl, whereas the Crysta diesel offers a claimed mileage of 15.30kmpl.
Assuming petrol costs Rs. 100 per litre and diesel costs Rs. 95 per litre, the Innova Hycross would incur a fuel cost of roughly Rs. 474 per 100km, while the Innova Crysta would cost approximately Rs. 621 per 100km. This translates to a saving of around Rs. 147 for every 100km driven in favour of the Hycross.
Over 10,000km of driving, the Hycross could save owners close to Rs. 14,700 in fuel costs, while buyers covering 20,000km annually could save nearly Rs. 29,400 per year.
For buyers who spend most of their time in urban traffic and mixed driving conditions, the Hycross's strong hybrid powertrain is likely to deliver substantially lower running costs thanks to its ability to operate on electric power at low speeds and during stop-go traffic. However, buyers who frequently undertake long highway journeys with a full load of passengers and luggage may still prefer the Crysta's diesel engine for its strong low-end torque, relaxed cruising characteristics and bullet-proof reliability.
The Innova Crysta ZX appeals to buyers who prioritise a diesel engine with a manual transmission, rugged rear-wheel-drive drivetrain and traditional MPV characteristics. Features such as seatback tables, a wireless charger and front fog lamps are useful additions, but its age is beginning to show when compared to the Innova Hycross.
The Innova Hycross VX, on the other hand, feels like the more modern product. It offers a petrol strong hybrid powertrain with an automatic transmission, better mileage, more safety features, additional charging options, automatic headlamps, an electronic parking brake and a more contemporary overall package.
For most private buyers spending around Rs. 26 lakh, the Hycross VX is likely to be the more sensible choice. However, buyers specifically seeking a diesel MPV for high-mileage highway will still find the Crysta ZX worth considering.
