One of the biggest launches this year has been the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The MPV has been launched at Rs 7.44 lakh (ex- showroom) for the base model and Rs 10.90 lakh (ex- showroom) for the top end model. According to the latest reports, the 2018 Ertiga MPV compliance with the upcoming Bharat NCAP safety standards. With this the newly launched Ertiga becomes a part of the nine cars by Maruti Suzuki including Maruti Ciaz sedan, Maruti S- Cross crossover, Maruti Baleno hatchback, Maruti Dzire compact sedan, Maruti Swift, Maruti Ignis, Maruti Celerio and Maruti Vitara Brezza, that meet the upcoming Bharat NCAP safety standards in the country.
Based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform, the official bookings for the MPV opened from 14th November, its launch too place on 21st November. Within a week, the new Maruti Ertiga successfully managed to receive around 10,000 pre- bookings and currently commands a waiting period up to 3 months. The new platform has helped the MPV to become stiffer, shed weight around 10 to 20 kg that varies variant- wise, but increase dimensions compared to the outgoing model. The new Ertiga is 99 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 5 mm taller than the old model.
The all- new Ertiga is available in four variants- L, V, Z and Z+ and offers five exterior color options- Pearl Metallic Auburn Red, Metallic Magma Grey, Real Metallic Oxford Blue, Pearl Arctic White and Metallic Silky Silver. The Second-gen Ertiga is loaded with features such as projector headlamps, fog lamps, LED tail lamps, 15- inch wheels, ventilated front cup holders, auto climate control with rear AC vents, 7- inch infotainment system with Android Auto and CarPlay, push- button start- stop and a reverse parking camera. Safety features on offer include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat anchors and reverse parking sensors. The MPV also gets ESP and hill hold for safety, but they are limited to the automatic transmission variants only.
Mechanically, , the all- new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga comes powered by the new 1.5L inline- four K15B petrol engine producing 103 bhp of power and 138 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated with either five- speed manual or four- speed automatic transmissions. However, the diesel engine remains the same with the 1.3- litre DDiS which produces 90 bhp of power and 200 Nm of peak torque mated to a five- speed manual transmission. The automaker doesn’t offer automatic gearbox option with the diesel engine. The claimed fuel efficiency by Maruti Suzuki on the 2018 Ertiga is 19.34 kmpl for the manual while the automatic makes 18.69 kmpl. The diesel Ertiga has a fuel efficiency of 25.47 kmpl. This is 10 per cent higher compared to the outgoing model.
Ertiga was first launched in India in April 2012 designed especially for Indian market and the company has sold over 4.2 lakh units so far. Also, Maruti Suzuki India has invested over Rs 900 crore in the development of the new Ertiga. Maruti’s Arena dealerships will be responsible for the sales of the MPV and will take on Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy in the Indian market.
