The Japanese auto major announced about the re-introduction of globally acclaimed Civic in the country when it showcased the current-gen Civic at the 2018 Auto Expo, and we have been waiting eagerly ever since. Now, the Honda Civic is finally going to launch in the car market of India in its new refreshed 2019 avatar on 7th of March.
India is going to receive the refreshed 10th generation Honda Civic after a hiatus of 5 years after the 8th generation model of the sedan was discontinued in the country by the Japanese company back in 2013. The Civic that enjoys an iconic position in the global market and was highly revered in India too had to leave our market due to poor sales. The lack of a diesel engine choice is considered to be one of primary reasons behind the Civic’s low sales in India. The Indian market wasn’t as developed as it is currently.
Honda is bringing back the Civic to India, as the company feels that the country’s auto industry is now more matured. Moreover, the new Honda Civic will be coming with a first time diesel version in India to ensure it finds more takers in the Indian premium D-sedan segment. To top it all, the 10th-gen Civic is far more stylish, bold and appealing than that of the previous generation models. The sedan has been also endowed with all the modern features to make it fight tough with its market competition.
The new 2019 Honda Civic sedan will be coming with a choice of a 1.8L petrol mill and a 1.6L diesel motor. The petrol mill is capable of generating a max power of 141 bhp, while the oil burner that also powers the all new CR-V, is good to belt out 120 bhp. The petrol engine gets paired with only an automatic CVT, while the diesel motor gets coupled with a 6 speed manual transmission.The new Civic petrol offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.5 kmpl, while the diesel counterpart offers a class leading fuel economy of 26.8 kmpl.
In terms of features are concerned, the new Civic also comes with some first-in-segment features as well to entice the value conscious modern Indian buyers. The executive sedan comes braced with a lane watch camera, which actually offers assistance on the blind spots by displaying them on the central display unit when the indicator is turned on. Another interesting feature is the Agile Handling Assist system which assists with enhanced stability when the car it cornering by utilizing the brakes on individual wheels. Apart from these driver assist systems, the new Civic also offers electric parking brake with a brake hold function, which comes really handy in heavy traffic conditions.
The new 2019 Honda Civic sedan is expected to come with a price range of Rs. 18 lakhs to Rs. 21 lakh. The Honda Civic will fight with the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia and Hyundai Elantra in India.
