A new spy shot of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5 door reveals new all-LED headlights that could be offered in the production-spec model. Read on to know more details about the new Mahindra Thar 5 door.

There are 2 main takeaways from the latest spy shot — the all-LED headlight setup and a different radiator grille design compared to the Thar 3 door. Based on the soy shot, we expect the production version of the Thar 5 door to feature all-LED headlights with LED projectors for both low and high beam. In comparison, the Thar 3 door comes with conventional halogen headlights.

Furthermore, the Thar 5 door is also likely to offer a tweaked front radiator grille. The Thar 3 door comes with a large radiator grille with 6 vertical bars. The Thar 5 door could offer a similar design, but with slight tweaking as seen in the image. Apart from that, the Thar 5 door will retain the bold stance and butch SUV styling of the Thar 3 door.
A previous spy shot of the Thar 5 door also revealed its large touchscreen infotainment system. While the current Thar 3 door comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the Thar 5 door is likely to offer a larger touchscreen infotainment system, which could measure up to 10 inches in size. The new spy shot reveals a larger touchscreen placed on the dashboard of the SUV and its edges jut out quite a bit from the binnacle. Hence, the production-spec Thar 5 door could also offer a redesigned dashboard for a seamless integration of the touchscreen infotainment system.

In terms of powertrains, we expect the new Thar 5 door to retain the same 2.2L turbo diesel and the 2.0L turbo petrol engine options as the Thar 3 door. However, both engines could offer more power and torque than the Thar 3 door to overcome the extra weight. Both engine options are likely to come with manual and automatic transmission options along with 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. In the Scorpio N, the 2.2L turbo diesel engine comes in 2 states of tune — 130PS and 175PS. We expect Mahindra to also offer the 200PS tune with the 2.0L turbo petrol engine.

While earlier rumours suggested Mahindra are planning to launch the Thar 5 door by the end of 2023, a spokesperson for the brand confirmed it will only go on sale in 2024. Hence, it is safe to say that Mahindra could reveal the Thar 5 door in early 2024 and launch it soon after. The new Thar 5 door will not have any direct rivals, save for the Force Gurkha 5 door, which is also slated for a 2024 launch.
