Tata Punch Facelift To Arrive In 2025

In a recent press interaction, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, the MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, confirmed that the Punch facelift will only go on sale in 2025. “Starting from the Punch EV, which is based on the pure EV architecture Acti.ev, our aim is to differentiate the ICE and EVs. Therefore, you will continue to see a differentiated look and feature set in an EV versus ICE. So when we come with a facelift for ICE, which is in the middle of 2025 or slightly later, it will come with a differentiated look with a different set of features as compared to the Punch EV,” he added.

Currently, the Nexon ICE and Nexon EV feature a largely similar design. The only differentiating factors at the front are the Nexon EV’s full-width LED DRLs and slatted lower grille. The Nexon ICE misses out on the full-width LED DRLs and get a contrast black upper nose section along with a mesh lower grille and larger faux skid plate. The side profiles of both models look identical and they share the same alloy wheel designs as well. The rear is also largely the same except for a thinner faux skid plate in the Nexon EV.

While the differences between the Nexon ICE and EV may be minimal, we expect the upcoming Punch ICE facelift’s design to deviate quite a bit from the recently launched Punch EV. The Punch ICE could in fact borrow design cues from the Harrier facelift, including a chrome studded upper and lower grille for cooling requirements. Additionally, while the Punch EV gets the option of a black roof, the Punch ICE could offer a different dual-tone colour option such as a white roof.

The Tata Punch ICE will also get a different set of features compared to the Punch EV, which gets:

  • 10.24-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 10.24-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Wireless charger
  • Electronic parking brake
  • Leatherette seats
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Connected LED DRLs with charge indicator
  • Sequential turn indicators
  • Air purifier
  • Sunroof (optional)
  • Steering wheel with illuminated logo
  • Touch-based HVAC controls

The Punch ICE could feature a smaller touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster and lack some of the features mentioned above to keep its costs in check. However, we expect it to offer standard safety features such as 6 airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), 3-point seatbelts for all seats, and ISOFIX mounts.

In terms of powertrain options, we expect the Punch ICE to retain its current set of engine and transmission options. The Tata Punch ICE is currently available with a 1.2-litre normal petrol with the option of a 5-speed manual (MT) and 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). It also gets the option of a 1.2-litre CNG engine with Tata’s innovative twin-CNG cylinder technology that liberates boot space.
