After introducing the 2025 Fortuner Legender 4x4 AT variant last month, Toyota have yet again updated the 2025 Fortuner lineup. This time around, Toyota have discontinued the Fortuner petrol-manual variants, effective April 2025. The latest move streamlines the engine and transmission options available for the Toyota SUV. For those considering a Fortuner, it’s crucial to understand how this change impacts the available choices and their respective strengths.

Previously, the Toyota Fortuner was offered with both petrol and diesel engine options, and each came with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions in select variants. However, as of April 2025, the petrol engine is now exclusively available with an automatic transmission.
Before its discontinuation, the Fortuner petrol-manual was priced at Rs. 33.78 lakh , while the Fortuner petrol-automatic cost Rs. 35.37 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom), a difference of 1.59 lakh.
Following the discontinuation, the Toyota Fortuner in India is now available with the following engine and transmission combinations:

The discontinuation of the petrol-manual variant means that buyers looking for a petrol-powered Fortuner will now only have the option of an automatic transmission. This could influence the buying decision for several reasons:
While Toyota are yet to state the exact reasons for discontinuing the Fortuner’s petrol-manual variant, it's likely due to factors such as low demand and market trends. If you were specifically looking for a petrol-powered Toyota Fortuner with a manual transmission, that option is no longer available in India as of April 2025. Buyers who prefer a manual transmission will now need to consider the diesel variants of the Fortuner.
