A few days back, Audi teased the comeback of the S5 Sportback on its official Twitter handle. The carmaker has now confirmed that the updated sedan will go on sale in India on 22 March 2021. Audi will launch the S5 Sportback in India which made its global debut back at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. it features subtle cosmetic updates, added features and a more powerful petrol engine.
In terms of design, the facelifted S5 Sportback looks sharper than before. The front fascia consists of new LED headlamps with L-shaped DRLs flanking the wider front grille. The front bumper is also redesigned with larger more aggressively styled air dams. At the back, it features mildly updated LED taillamps and a refreshed rear bumper. That said, the side profile remains unchanged save for a set of new alloy wheels.
Step inside the cabin and the most noticeable change one would come by is the introduction of a new 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen infotainment system which replaces the non-touch unit of the pre-facelift model. Features on offer include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, three-zone AC, powered front seats and multiple airbags.
The 2021 S5 Sportback will be powered by a 3.0-litre V6 TFSI turbo petrol engine. It makes 359PS and 500Nm paired to an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Like the pre-facelift model, the updated S5 also gets Audi’s Quattro 4WD system.
Globally, the S5 Sportback also gets a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine producing 247PS and 700Nm paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission but it is not expected to make way to the India-spec model.
Audi will continue to offer the S5 Sportback in India as a CBU import model. As a result, expect it to be priced around Rs 75 lakh. It will take on the likes of the Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC and the recently launched BMW M340i sedan.
