BMW India have launched the i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) at Rs. 79.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric sedan gets an 81.6kWh battery with up to 669km of MIDC range and supports 160kW DC fast charging. BMW have started deliveries immediately, while all 99 units of the First Edition were sold out before launch.

BMW offer the i5 LWB in the eDrive35L M Sport variant. The First Edition was also priced at Rs. 79.60 lakh, but is now sold out.
BMW build the i5 LWB at their Chennai plant, making it their first electric sedan to be produced in India. Deliveries of the i5 LWB begin immediately.
The new i5 LWB is also considerably cheaper than the standard-wheelbase i5 M60 xDrive. The latter is imported and currently costs Rs. 1.20 crore, making the locally produced i5 LWB Rs. 40.40 lakh cheaper.
The i5 LWB gets an 81.6kWh battery and a rear-mounted electric motor driving the rear wheels. The following table lists the i5 LWB's key powertrain specifications:
The i5 LWB also gets rear-axle air suspension. BMW have increased the ground clearance to better suit Indian road conditions, although they have not revealed the actual ground clearance figure.
The i5 LWB supports up to 160kW DC fast charging. BMW claim a 10 - 80 percent charge takes 33 minutes when using a suitable DC fast charger.
BMW include an 11kW wallbox charger and installation with the car.
The i5 LWB measures 5175mm long and has a 3105mm wheelbase.
As with the petrol-powered 5 Series LWB, the extra length is primarily used to improve rear-seat space and comfort. The rear seats get additional cushioning, side support and comfort headrests. BMW also quote a 31-degree rear-seat torso angle.

Rear passengers also get 4-zone auto AC, wireless phone charging in the centre armrest and controls for the AC and panoramic glass roof. There are USB-C ports and mounting points behind the front seats for personal tablets.
The dashboard gets a curved display made up of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. It runs BMW Operating System 8.5 and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other notable features include:

The i5 LWB also gets active cruise control with stop and go, lane departure warning, lane change warning, front collision warning, rear cross-traffic warning and the ability to park the car remotely using a smartphone.
BMW offer the i5 LWB in 4 exterior colours:
The standard interior uses a dual-tone Copper Brown and Atlas Grey vegan leather upholstery.
There is currently no direct long-wheelbase electric sedan rival to the i5 LWB.
Its petrol-powered sibling, the BMW 5 Series LWB, competes with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB. The i5 LWB instead gives buyers looking for a chauffeur-friendly luxury sedan an electric alternative at a similar size.
