Mahindra BE.05 Spied Testing For The First Time | V3Cars

Last year, Mahindra showcased the concept versions of their upcoming BE range of electric SUVs in the UK. Now, the BE.05 electric SUV was spotted testing for the first time in the outskirts of Chennai, near Mahindra Research Valley. Let’s take a closer look at Mahindra’s rival to the Tata Curvv in more detail.

Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUV

Mahindra BE.05 Spotted Testing

The Mahindra BE.05 that was spotted testing recently looks similar to the concept that was showcased in the UK last year. However, there are some subtle differences such as replacing the camera-based ORVMs seen in the concept with conventional wing mirrors. Although the electric SUV was covered in camouflage top to bottom, it is evident that Mahindra have toned down the sharp creases and lines in the test mule when compared to the concept that was showcased.

However, Mahindra have retained the aggressive front profile of the concept, including the C-shaped LED DRLs. However, Mahindra have given the test mule a conventional bonnet instead of the steeply raked bonnet with an air duct seen in the concept SUV. Although the side profile is not visible in these spy shots, we expect Mahindra to retain the coupe-like roofline in the production-spec BE.05.

Mahindra BE.05 Dimensions, Platform And Powertrain

When Mahindra showcased the BE.05 concept, the electric SUV measured 4370mm in length, 1900mm in width and 1635mm in height. The electric coupe-SUV featured a wheelbase of 2775mm. Based on these spy shots, we could expect similar dimensions from the production-spec BE.05 as well. Mahindra have stated that the production-spec Mahindra BE.05 will be based on the carmaker’s INGLO EV platform with a few components borrowed from Volkswagen.

While the exact specifications of the BE.05 are not available at the moment, Mahindra have reveled their plans to utilise both Blade and Prismatic cell batteries with a capacity ranging from 60-80kWh. The batteries will be capable of fast charging up to 175kW, which should enable users to charge their eSUVs from 0-80% in 30 minutes. Mahindra’s INGLO-based electric SUVs are capable of housing both rear-wheel drive motors as well as an all-wheel drivetrain. As far as driving range is concerned, we could expect the BE.05 to offer a range of 435km to 450km (WLTP cycle) based on the battery capacity.
