Various reports have stated that Maruti Suzuki are set to discontinue the S-Cross later this year. The movie is likely to pave the way for Maruti’s upcoming YFG compact SUV co-developed with Toyota.

Maruti Nexa S-Cross

Currently, the S-Cross sits above the Vitara Brezza as the flagship model in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio. The upcoming compact SUV is likely to replace the S-Cross and take on the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos with a strong hybrid powertrain.

if the S-Cross remains on sale, it will brush its shoulders with the upcoming YFG compact SUV. By discontinuing the S-Cross, Maruti Suzuki will be able to carve out some space for the new SUV. Speaking of the S-Cross, it hasn’t been able to put a dent in the sales of compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta.

Maruti Suzuki’s YFG compact SUV will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant alongside the Toyota D22 SUV. Both SUVs will be based on Toyota’s TNGA-B platform and share a common hybrid powertrain as well. Rumours suggest that Toyota’s D22 SUV is likely to be called Hyryder whereas Maruti Suzuki could continue with the popular S-Cross badge.

Speaking of the S-Cross, Maruti Suzuki debuted their Nexa chain of dealerships with the S-Cross in 2015. It was initially available with a choice of two Fiat-sourced diesel engines — 1.3L turbo diesel and 1.6L turbo diesel. After the BS6 emission norms kicked in, Maruti Suzuki replaced the 1.3L diesel engine with a new 1.5L normal petrol engine whereas the 1.6L diesel engine was taken off the shelves even before BS6 norms owing to poor sales. Currently, the S-Cross range is priced from Rs. 8.95 lakh to Rs. 12.92 lakh ex-showroom. Maruti Suzuki are likely to stop the production of the S-Cross soon as the hybrid SUV is expected to hit showrooms this Diwali.
