South Korean automaker Hyundai had unveiled the 2019 Elantra facelift in the US, earlier this year. The latest update is that the refreshed sedan has now been spotted testing India recently. Scheduled to be launched in the country sometime in 2019, the executive sedan was spotted testing in Tamil Nadu. The 2019 Hyundai Elantra sedan is offered in SE, SEL, Value Edition, Limited, Eco, and Sport variants in the US market, where it has already been launched.
Boasting of a more aggressive design as compared to its earlier counterpart, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra gets a new hexagonal grille at the front flanked by triangular LED headlamps, headlamp clusters with integrated V- shaped LED DRLs and the front bumper housing triangular fog lamps. It also gets a coupe -like side profile with blacked- out B- pillars and has ORVMs with integrated turn signals while the rear offers a redesigned boot lid with wraparound LED tail lights. The dual- tone bumper with reflector strips placed on each corner completes the overall look of the sedan.
Not only the exterior, but the interior of the upcoming Elantra has also been updated by the automaker. The refreshed Elantra will offer a redesigned centre console with an 8.0- inch infotainment system that has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity options along with features such as a 3- spoke multi-function steering wheel and a twin- pod instrument cluster with an MID in the centre. In terms of safety features, the global version of updated Elantra gets various active safety features like Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert, Safe Exit Assist, Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Collision Warning with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist. The existing model in the Indian market gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management and hill launch assist. It will be interesting to see that the Indian spec upcoming Elantra gets how many of these safety features.
Under the hood, the Indian version of 2019 Hyundai Elantra will come powered by a 2.0- litre petrol engine which makes 150 BHP and 192 Nm of torque and a 1.6- litre diesel engine that produces 126 BHP and 260 Nm of peak torque. However, the automaker still needs to confirm the same. Transmission options are likely to include a 6- speed manual and a 6- speed automatic.
Recently, Hyundai has introduced some additional features on the top- spec SX (O) AT variant including front parking sensors and wireless charging in the Indian market.
