Spied: 2020 BMW X6 Testing
After shifting the X5 to the new CLAR- Cluster Architecture platform, BMW is now all set to bring the 2020 X6 based on the same platform. The model has already been spotted a number of times testing in the US. Recently, the upcoming BMW X6 has recently been spied in Germany with heavy camouflage all over the body though revealing some design elements of the third-gen coupe-SUV.
According to the spied images, the upcoming X6 will get a larger iteration of BMW’s signature kidney grille, flanked by new headlamps with hexagonal internal detailing, new bumper and larger air dams. At the sides, the coupe inspired SUV will offer the new X6 looks similar to its predecessor though looking longer and larger wheel arches, while the rear will get new LED tail lamps along with a larger tailgate and a slim bumper housing trapezoidal exhaust tips.
Though the interior of the next-gen BMW X6 has not been spotted yet, but the reports suggest that like exterior the interior of the 2020 X6 will also come inspired by the BMW X5. Also, we would love to see the interior to be more spacious than its predecessor.
Like the interior and the exterior, the powertrain specifications for the third-gen X6 are going to be carried forward from the existing X5. The fourth-gen BMW X5 is available with three engine options with four power outputs, out of which the new 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol motor that churns out 455 bhp and 650 Nm of peak torque is the most powerful of the lot. The other engine options include a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine generating 335 bhp and 450 Nm and a 3.0-litre inline-six diesel engine available in two states of tune – 261 bhp and 620 Nm as well as 394 bhp and 760 Nm. An 8-speed automatic transmission and a rear-biased all-wheel drive system are available as option, sending power to all the four wheels.;
BMW had first launched the X6 in 2008 and the next-gen coupe based SUV came out in 2015 and now the German luxury manufacturer is working on bringing the third-gen X6 only after three years. Currently, the existing BMW X6 is sold in the country at Rs 94.14 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and is available on sale in two trim levels -xDrive40d M Sport, and 35i. While the xDrive40d M Sport comes powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel producing 308 bhp and 630 Nm, the xDrive35i gets a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder, petrol engine which generates 301 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines are offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the xDrive40d also gets BMW's four-wheel drive technology.
The launch date of the next-gen BMW X6 is yet to be revealed but according to the preparations, we expect the luxury vehicle to debut sometime by early 2019. In India, we can expect the next-gen X6 to be launched by 2020 as a CBU, like the previous models. The second-gen BMW X6 takes against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Jaguar F-Pace and the Porsche Cayenne in the segment.
