The Tata Altroz Turbo is likely to go on sale in India soon. The hatchback has already been spotted testing in the country and now the carmaker has registered the hatchback with the Delhi RTO as well.
The Altroz Turbo is powered by a turbocharged version of the 1.2-litre petrol engine. The engine will make a 110PS of maximum power, which is 24PS more than the standard Altroz petrol. The RTO application does not reveal anything about the torque figures but we expect them to be around the 170Nm mark. The naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine has a torque output of 113Nm.
At launch, we expect the Altroz Turbo to be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. It remains to be seen whether Tata will offer the rumoured dual-clutch automatic transmission with the turbocharged Altroz at launch or not. The automatic transmission is expected to be available with the Altroz as well as the Nexon.
As per the Altroz Turbo’s registration document, it will be offered in four variants: XT, XT(O), XZ and the XZ(O). So, expect it to get features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto AC with rear AC vents, tilt-adjustable steering, cruise control, multiple driving modes, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and a 7-inch digital driver’s display. It remains to be seen if Tata will make the turbocharged Altroz look different from its regular version by way of some exterior-interior cosmetic updates or not.
The Altroz will not be the only premium hatchback in India to get a turbocharged petrol engine, as the Volkswagen Polo is already available with the turbocharged version of its 1.0-litre petrol engine. Smaller hatchback Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is also available with the option of a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine now, that produces 100PS of maximum power. Hyundai is also expected to offer a turbocharged petrol engine on the next-gen i20. It is likely to get Venue’s 1.0-litre turbo unit making 120PS of maximum power and 172Nm of peak torque.
Tata is expected to launch the Altroz Turbo around Diwali (November 2020). Expect the prices to range from Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh. The standard Altroz petrol, on the other hand, retails from Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
