Toyota Fortuner Updated With More Features And Power — India Bound? | V3Cars

The Thai-spec Toyota Fortuner has received an update that packs more features and a more powerful diesel engine than before. Read on to know what’s new in the Toyota Fortuner sold in Thailand and its potential India launch timeline.

Toyota Fortuner Gets More Features In Thailand

The updated Toyota Fortuner for the Thai market gets a couple of feature updates across all variants. The Leader, which is the base-spec Fortuner in the Thai market, gets new features like a wireless phone charger, 360-degree parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), blind spot monitoring system and rear cross traffic alert.

The Legender variant further adds new features like a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist. The Legender variant also gets a retuned suspension for better bump absorption and curtailing undesired vibrations.

Toyota reserved the bulk of the changes for the Fortuner GR Sport variant. It now packs a more powerful 2.8L turbo diesel engine that produces 224PS of power and 550Nm of torque, which is 20PS and 50Nm more than the Legender. Toyota have also retuned its suspension with new monotubes, which the carmaker claims improves the driving performance of the Fortuner GR Sport.

Will The India-Spec Toyota Fortuner Get These Updates?

Currently, Toyota Kirloskar Motor offer all the Fortuner variants that are available in the Thai market in India as well, including the Legender and GR Sport. Given that Toyota sell the Fortuner in India as a completely knocked down (CKD) model sourced from Thailand, we expect the same changes to be offered with the India-spec model too. The Toyota Fortuner is currently the best-selling SUV in the D2 segment and this is unlikely to change any time soon. However, the new updates could help Toyota entice more customers to pick the Fortuner over its rivals, at least until the new generation Fortuner SUV arrives in India.
