In terms of dimensions, the XUV300 leads with the longest wheelbase and the widest body. A longer wheelbase typically results in better legroom in the cabin. But it eats into the boot space as the rear wheels are pushed further to the rear. It shows in the boot capacity of the Mahindra XUV300 as it has the smallest boot. Also, it has the lowest ground clearance of 180mm.

Mahindra XUV300 W4 Variant - Okay To Buy On Tight Budget
The base W4 variant of the Mahindra XUV300 diesel comes with 2 airbags, ABS, parking sensors, day/night inside mirror, central locking, ISOFIX child seat anchors and four-wheel disc brakes. The Mahindra XUV300 is the only car in the sub-compact SUV segment that comes with disc brakes on the rear wheels for better braking and safety.
The functional features of the XUV300 include 60/40 split rear seat, adjustable steering weight settings, all four power windows, front centre armrest with storage and adjustable rear headrests. The XUV300 also has a unique feature of adjustable steering stiffness/weight. It has Comfort mode, which makes it light for driving at slow speeds. The Sport mode makes it heavy for better high-speed stability on the highway.

The W4 variant is a little lacking in the style department as it gets black plastic parts in place of the higher variants LED DRL strips. However, it gets body-coloured bumpers, door handles and outside mirrors to make up for that. It also has a non-touchscreen 4-speaker music system with Bluetooth and USB.
In terms of features, this variant is fairly loaded and doesn’t feel like a stripped base variant at all. If you’re on a tight budget, then you can consider buying this variant.

Mahindra XUV300 W6 Variant - Not Recommended
At Rs. 9.5 lakh, the W6 variant of the Mahindra XUV300 is Rs. 81,000 more expensive than the W4 variant. It’s also the most affordable automatic variant of the XUV300 diesel. The W6 automatic is Rs. 49,000 more expensive than the W6 with the 6-speed manual transmission. It’s a reasonable jump in cost for the 6-speed AMT automatic.
In terms of entertainment features, the W6 variant replaces the non-touch music system with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and it also gets steering-mounted controls. Since it already comes with a touchscreen infotainment system, it would have been nice to have Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity options, which are missing here. The other features include an adjustable boot floor, remote for central locking, rear spoiler, door cladding and roof rails.
We believe that this variant doesn’t justify the increase in price over the W4 variant and is therefore not recommended. Although, some of you may find the W6 automatic a good option because of its sub-Rs. 10.0 lakh ex-showroom price, which allows you to enjoy a lower tax slab depending on the state of registration.

Mahindra XUV300 W8 Variant - Recommended Most Value-For-Money Variant
The W8 variant of the Mahindra XUV300 is another Rs. 1.45 lakh more expensive than the W6 variant. The W8 automatic is about Rs. 1.51 lakh dearer than the W6 automatic.
For about Rs. 1.5 lakh, the W8 variant gets you safety features like electronic stability control, projector headlamps, fog lamps, parking camera, rear washer, wiper and defogger, hill start assist, warning light on front doors and alarm for central locking.
Functional features of the Mahindra XUV300 W8 variant include keyless entry with push-button start/stop, idle start/stop to save fuel, automatic headlamps and wipers, cruise control, 3.5-inch multi-info display, electrically-folding outside mirrors, a rear armrest with cup holders, dual-zone automatic AC, sunglass holder and a luggage lamp. A dual-zone auto AC is exclusively available in the XUV300 and no other sub-compact SUV has this feature.
Style-related features of the W8 variant are alloy wheels, LED DRLs, turn indicators on outside mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel and chrome outside door handles. The touchscreen infotainment system also gets smartphone connectivity with the addition of Android Auto and Apple Carplay and 2 additional tweeters.
While the difference in price is big compared to the W6 variant, the long list of features justifies the price jump appropriately. This is our top recommended and most value for money variant of the XUV300 diesel - both, with or without the automatic transmission.

Mahindra XUV300 Diesel Best Variant - W8
Top recommended and most value for money variant of the Mahindra XUV300 diesel is the W8 with or without the automatic transmission. The base W4 variant is also a good buy if you’re on a tight budget. If you have no financial constraints or you want the best safety and style features, then you can upgrade to the W8 (O) manual or automatic variant. The W6 manual variant is not recommended as it offers poor value for money.
