Tata Altroz 1.5 L, 4-cylinder diesel engine makes 90PS of maximum power and 200Nm of peak torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual transmission and has a mileage of 23.03kmpl.
Hyundai Aura gets a 1.2 L, 3-cylinder diesel engine makes 75PS of maximum power and 190Nm of peak torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT type automatic transmission. The Hyundai Aura diesel manual has a mileage of 25.35kmpl while the automatic claims to deliver a fuel-efficiency figure of 25.4kmpl.
- The Aura carries forward that same positivity with the diesel engines too by offering better mileage figures than the Altroz.
- Despite a lower torque and power output, the Aura offers a stronger torque-to-weight ratio and therefore, it should, in theory, offer better performance. However, we can’t ignore the Altroz’ chunkier peak torque band, which is 1750rpm wide - the widest for any diesel car in India. This could offset the Aura’s torque-to-weight advantage by offering linear acceleration for a longer duration in each gear at relaxed RPMs.

In terms of dimensions, the Altroz is larger than the Aura. A wider body and bigger wheels with wider tyres may give the Altroz a better road presence than the chubbier Aura.
For petrol powertrain, Auras turbo petrol engine offers more torque, so it will offer better drivability compared to Altroz engine. But, this engine comes at a cost - Rs. 1.25 lakh to be precise. Performance doesn’t come cheap! Thankfully, you don’t give up efficiency with this engine. All of Aura’s engine-transmission combinations offer better mileage than the Altroz.
