Toyota Glanza vs Hyundai Elite i20: Which Car To Buy At Rs 7.5 Lakh?
Both the Toyota Glanza and Elite i20 compete in the premium hatchback category, and their common rivals include cars like the Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Volkswagen Polo. Between the Glanza and Elite i20, we find out which car delivers more value for money if your budget allows you to buy a car that’s priced around Rs 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
Toyota Glanza’s G variant and Elite i20’s Sportz+ variant are the ones that we’ll compare. Both these are priced this side of the Rs 7.5 lakh mark and are separated by a difference of around Rs 10,000.
While the Glanza is available only in two variants -- G and V, the Elite i20 with petrol-manual powertrain can be had in four -- Era, Magna+, Sportz+ and Asta(O). Before we compare features of both these cars and come to a conclusion, here’s a look at the specifications.
Between the Glanza and Elite i20, the Toyota is bigger, but not by a big margin. It also has the more powerful engine, which is also coupled with mild-hybrid tech. The Glanza is likely to be the more fuel efficient car in the real world, but since we haven’t tested both the cars yet, we can’t conclude which one is more frugal. On paper, the Glanza tops the Elite i20 when it comes to outright power. Both the cars are available with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Both the cars in this comparison get almost all the basic features we expect from a premium hatchback around the Rs 7.5 lakh mark. In terms of safety features, both the cars are equipped with dual front airbags, ABS and rear defogger. Features like alloy wheels, fog lamps, touchscreen audio system, tilt and telescopic steering and electrically foldable ORVMs are also a part of the package in both. So, no matter which car you buy, you would feel upgrading from a mid-size hatchback in terms of size as well as features.
But talk about features that are reserved for each of the cars, and the Glanza shines brighter than the Elite i20. It gets useful features like automatic AC, LED projector headlamps, auto-dimming IRVM and rear wiper and washer, all of which can’t be easily fitted to the Elite i20 post purchase.
While the Elite i20 also gets its own unique set of features like rear AC vents and cooled glovebox, these aren’t the features you’ll miss badly if you buy the Glanza. Rear parking camera is an important feature, but can be fitted on the Glanza post purchase, making it an even better package after that.
Toyota Glanza vs Hyundai Elite i20: Which car to buy?
The answer is simple now. While it is more expensive than the Elite i20, it’s the Glanza that makes for a better package given the features it offers. The fact that it is also slightly bigger and more powerful further make the package stronger on paper.
