
Mercedes-Benz have confirmed that they will launch the EQS electric sedan in India in 2022. The flagship electric sedan will be locally assembled in India at the carmaker’s Chakan plant. Mercedes-Benz expect to start the local assembly of the EQS in the last quarter of 2022.

Nissan India recently increased the prices of the Magnite by up to Rs. 9,000. After this price revision, the Magnite's ex-showroom price now starts at Rs. 5.77 lakh and tops out at Rs. 9.98 lakh. The new January 2022 prices are between 0.65% and 1.28% higher than before. There have been no new changes in terms of features or variants.

Kia India recently increased the prices of the Carnival by up to Rs. 54,000. After this price revision, the Carnival's ex-showroom price now starts at Rs. 25.49 lakh and tops out at Rs. 34.49 lakh.The new January 2022 prices are between 1.47% and 2.16% higher than before.

Maruti Suzuki will launch the 2022 Celerio CNG in January. The Celerio is already the most fuel-efficient car in the country and we expect it to become the most fuel-efficient CNG offering in the country too. The Celerio CNG may share its powertrain with the WagonR CNG. It is unlikely to see Maruti Suzuki using the dual-jet petrol engine with the CNG models. Maruti Suzuki may offer the Celerio CNG with the mid-spec VXI and ZXI trims. Just like all the other Maruti Suzuki CNG cars, the CNG variants of the 2022 Celerio may also carry a similar price hike of Rs. 90,000 over the comparable petrol-only models.

Hyundai India shuffled the Santro CNG variants. The Magna CNG and Sportz CNG variants are no longer on sale. Instead, we have the Magna Executive and Sportz Executive. In terms of features, these variants will sit below the Magna and Sportz variants, respectively. The 2022 prices of the Santro’s petrol and CNG variants are still not out.

MG Motor India recently dropped the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission from the Hector and Hector Plus petrol powertrain. The D-segment SUVs from MG were the only ones with the DCT automatic. The two cars will continue with the CVT automatic, which they had introduced about a year ago and it cost the same as the DCT. Thus, for a year or so, customers had the choice to pick the automatic transmission of their choice with the Hector and Hector Plus petrol. It looks like the demand for CVT was stronger than that of the DCT. MG no longer have a DCT automatic in their India portfolio as the Astor gets CVT and torque converter automatic while the Gloster only gets a torque converter. The CVT is available in 3 trim levels as opposed to the now-discontinued DCT, which was available in 2 variants.

According to a new report, Tata Motors are considering the 1.5L turbo petrol engine for their bigger cars. Owing to the rough past two years, Tata Motors had decided not to develop petrol engines and invest the funds in their EV business. However, the sales of Tata Motors are growing rapidly and even surpassed Hyundai to become the second best-seller in December 2021. Tata Motors are now considering making a 4-cylinder, 1.5L turbo petrol engine to offer petrol engine options in the C and D segment cars. Rumours suggest that this engine could produce about 160PS of power and may come with an automatic gearbox as well.

Toyota India have hiked the prices of the Fortuner range again. The Fortuner 4x4 and Legender have seen a hike of Rs 1.10 lakh ex-showroom. In addition to that, the Fortuner 4x2 variants have received a hike of Rs 66,000 ex-showroom. Toyota Fortuner range now starts from Rs 31.39 Lakh and goes to Rs 43.43 Lakh ex-showroom. Toyota have hiked the prices of the Fortuner for the third time ever since the facelift was launched.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno will soon get a major update. Multiple spy images surfaced earlier, revealing some key changes with the premium hatchback. Our dependable sources suggest that the 2022 Nexa Baleno will go on sale in February 2022. It will feature a new front and rear end with an updated grille, bumpers, headlights, and taillights. On the inside, we expect to get a new steering wheel, an updated cabin layout, and new features. However, we do not expect the Baleno to undergo any mechanical changes.

Kia India have revealed the complete details of the Kia Carens. Kia will start accepting bookings for the Carens from January 14, 2022 onwards. They will offer the Carens in five trim levels - Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. In addition to that, the Carens will have the segment-longest wheelbase and Kia claims it to be even longer than many vehicles above its class. On the powertrain front, the Carens will get 1.5L normal petrol, 1.4L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options.

Skoda India have revised the prices of the Kushaq. Skoda have increased the prices by up to Rs 50,000 for some variants whereas some variants have not received any price revisions. Skoda India recently added six airbags and other safety features to the top variants of the Kushaq. Skoda have not increased the prices of the Kushaq Ambition manual and automatic variants. The Active variant sees the biggest price hike of Rs 50,000, as the range now starts from Rs 10.99 Lakh ex-showroom.

According to a new report, Hyundai have approved internal funding for an entry-level micro SUV codenamed Ai3. It is expected to make its debut in the market by 2023 and will be positioned below the Venue. The upcoming micro SUV from Hyundai could be based on the heavily-localised platform of the Casper. That will help to keep the costs in check and could also mean some alterations in the dimensions. On the powertrain front, it may pack a 1.1L petrol engine and a 1.2L petrol engine.

Tata Motors have now started accepting bookings for the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG. Tata Motors will announce the pricing of the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG later in January 2022. We do not expect any big changes in terms of styling and features with both models. On the powertrain front, both the cars will continue with the same 1.2L normal petrol engine, with reduced power and torque output while running on CNG.

While the India-exclusive Slavia is still some time away, Skoda are all set to launch the Kodiaq facelift on January 10. Rumours suggest that unofficial bookings are now open and the deliveries will start January 14 onwards. Skoda India will locally assemble the Kodiaq facelift to keep the pricing aggressive.
