The Citroen C3 Aircross is set to get an automatic transmission soon. V3Cars can now confirm the C3 Aircross automatic will launch on January 29, 2024. A few dealerships are currently accepting pre-bookings for the C3 Aircross automatic for a token amount of Rs. 25,000. We expect Citroen to announce the prices of the new automatic variants by the end of this month.

During the media drive of the C3 Aircross, Citroen officials told V3Cars that they are developing an automatic transmission for the SUV. They also ruled out low-cost AMTs for the C3 and C3 Aircross due to their unrefined nature. Citroen said they want to offer a premium and refined experience with their cars and given that their global lineup uses torque converters, we reported that Citroen cars sold in India would also come with torque converter automatics.

Now, we can confirm that the C3 Aircross automatic will indeed use a 6-speed torque converter. It will be offered in 2 variants – Plus and Max – and we expect Citroen to charge a premium of Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 1.0 lakh over the corresponding manual variants.

The Citroen C3 Aircross is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 110PS of power at 5500rpm and 190Nm of torque at 1750rpm. Citroen’s C-segment SUV currently comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 18.5kmpl. None of the Citroen C3 Aircross’ rivals use low-cost AMTs. Instead, they come equipped with torque converters (TC), continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVT) or dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). The Kia Seltos is the only exception as it offers a 6-speed auto-clutch manual transmission in addition to TC, CVT and DCT options. The Citroen C3 Aircross is currently priced between Rs. 11.90 lakh and Rs. 12.97 lakh (ex-showroom).
