Mercedes-Benz have launched the GLC Electric in India at Rs. 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric SUV comes in the GLC 400 4MATIC variant with AMG Line styling and a 94kWh battery.

The electric SUV will be locally manufactured at the company’s Chakan plant in Pune and is available in a single, all-wheel-drive variant. It offers a powerful dual-motor setup, a claimed WLTP range of 711km, a large dashboard-spanning display, fast-charging capability and several comfort and convenience features.
Here are the top 10 features of the Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4Matic Electric that you should know about.

One of the biggest highlights of the electric GLC’s cabin is its 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. It combines the digital instrument cluster, central infotainment touchscreen and front passenger display under a single glass surface, giving the dashboard a seamless, screen-heavy appearance.
The system runs Mercedes-Benz’s 4th-generation MBUX interface and gets a zero-layer layout, which is designed to make frequently used functions easier to access.

The GLC 400 4Matic gets a panoramic glass roof that can switch between transparent and opaque states at the touch of a button. This allows occupants to adjust the amount of light entering the cabin without relying on a conventional sunshade.
The roof also features illuminated Mercedes-Benz stars, which can match the cabin’s ambient lighting colour. This adds a unique visual element to the interior, especially at night.

The electric GLC gets a Burmester 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers and a 670W amplifier. It also supports Dolby Atmos, which is designed to deliver a more immersive listening experience by adding a sense of spatial depth to compatible audio content.

The front end gets an illuminated grille, with fibre-optic elements integrated into its chrome trim. The grille’s lighting signature gives the electric GLC a unique appearance, especially after dark.
It is paired with adaptive headlamps that adapt their illumination to traffic and changing lighting conditions. The system also includes an ‘Ultra Range’ high beam function designed to illuminate the road further ahead.
The India-spec GLC 400 4Matic uses a dual-motor electric powertrain, with one motor driving each axle. The electric SUV offers a combined output of 489PS and 800Nm of torque.
The electric SUV can accelerate from 0-100kmph in a claimed 4.3 seconds. Its all-wheel-drive layout should also help distribute power between the front and rear wheels depending on driving conditions.
The GLC 400 4Matic gets a 94kWh battery pack with a claimed WLTP range of up to 715km on a single charge. This gives the electric SUV a substantial claimed driving range. However, the actual range will vary depending on driving style, road conditions, temperature and AC usage.
The battery uses an 800V electrical architecture, which supports high-power DC fast charging.
The electric GLC supports DC fast charging at up to 330kW. Mercedes-Benz India claim the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in around 22 minutes when connected to a compatible 330kW DC fast charger. It’s worth noting that charging speeds will depend on the charger’s output, battery temperature and other operating conditions.

The GLC 400 4Matic gets Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Mercedes-Benz also lists Level 2+ functions, including Steering Assist, as features that can be upgraded over the air. These systems are designed to assist the driver with certain aspects of driving, but they do not make the vehicle autonomous.
The electric GLC offers a combined luggage capacity of 698 litres, split between a 570L rear boot and a 128L front storage compartment, also known as a frunk.

The front storage area provides additional space for smaller bags or charging accessories, while the conventional boot can accommodate larger luggage. This gives the 5-seat electric SUV useful storage options.

The GLC 4Matic EV is offered with a comfort suspension with selective damping. The system automatically adapts to changing road surfaces to help maintain a smooth and refined ride.
This is a feature highly relevant for Indian road conditions, where the suspension needs to deal with varying surface quality, undulations and uneven patches.
The electric GLC is locally manufactured at Mercedes-Benz’s Chakan facility in Pune. Unlike the long-wheelbase GLC Electric offered in China, the India-spec model uses the standard 2972mm wheelbase.
It offers a 5-seat layout and competes with electric SUVs such as the the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase and Tesla Model Y range in the premium electric SUV segment.
